Some of you will remember my thread about having a new garage door fitted. Finally, this is getting done on Monday. Mrs keeps booing holidays and i keep buying shit cars
Next on the list will be to do something with this grassed area.
Big enough for 3 medium sized family hatch backs.
What would users do with the area? My thoughts are block pave the entire area. A cheaper option would be to throw down a load of stones.
I want the area to park cars on.

Edited. The cost of stones was just over £350 when i looked into it.
Stones are not going to be the best when working on the cars and i'm not sure if they would encourage kids to piss around.

Need planning for tarmac. It's St Helen's, there are gypos everywhere!

Do you really want to replace a decent (if bland) bit of grass with some shit hardcore and 3 knackered cars?

I've had my car hit twice now outside my house. First time the guy fucked off but we got his reg, second time was the guy across the road who didn't want to pay for the damage he caused. Ended up both insurance claims i can do without!
I'd be happy getting one car on that area, just want it off the road. We could use the garage but that's going to be a pain in the backside with our working hours.

I'll get some better pictures tomorrow as we have more space to the other side. It may be we pull up the current drive and split the space.
This is to much work for myself so i will be getting someone in to do it. Dependent on the cost, i may dig it up myself.

I would maybe extend it towards the bush so you can get both cars on but not the whole way, be a shame to lose some of the grass.

Block pave it. I'm loving mine, it adds a bit of kerb appeal to your property also. Neighbours have commented on how nice it looks and have asked my dad to do their fronts too.
That was about 15 Sq m and it took 6 tonne of type 1 in the badboy hole.
If you want to dig it out by hand, like I did, then be prepared for it to take forever

New garage door has been fitted today.
If you look that that photo, i'm thinking of taking up the current drive as the condition is not the best and replacing with block paving. Looking to do up to the pathway down the left and up to the end of the porch on the right (to the end of the first window). Should be enough room allowing to open doors.

How much was the garage door, if you don't mind me asking? Insulated/electric?

£1150. Fully electric, alarm, light and installed. I did look around but this is an established local company who have provided a 5 year warranty on ALL parts and labor.

Mum and Dad have one of those rolley doors but I'd want that budget to cover my new garage roof and the door at my place

Pricey! I was looking at a non insulated electric roller door and they were about £450 supplied. Suppose it's ok for fitted and warranty.

How big is your drive? Mine was 3.9m x 3.6m, 6 tonne type 1, 2 tonne sharp sand, 700 blocks and 15 bags of fine sand and total cost was about £800 for reference.

The area i need doing is very similar to your size Ben. One of the reasons we bought this house is because of the amount of space on the front. I keep thinking get it done as i want it with the kerbs lowered etc but i'm also thinking about how much that would cost compared with just doing what is needed.
Block paving is not a bad idea as it can always be reused in the back garden.
Wish we had of held out for somewhere with a double garage now though!

I went for one of these off eBay and fitted it myself. Cost just under £400 in the end I think. Took a morning to remove the old one and fit the new one.
The one in the pic looks like the 77mm slat version which has a 300mm roller which is normally about £700/800 supply so the price all fitted seems fair enough

Maybe my prediction of £1500 for a double roller door is a bit low

Block paving is more expensive than I thought looking at your costs,
I was wanting to change the Tarmac on mine to block paving but is around 11m x 4m and another bit at about 5m x 4m so would cost quite a bit in just materials, might have to wait a while

I wouldn't say it was expensive for the block paving itself. Most of the cost was for the foundations needed for driving a car on it. I probably went a bit deep when digging out, but felt it best to be cautious and over-estimate rather than go to shallow and have the paving sink, which would only cost me more in the long run.

Oh ok. I had a ball park figure of £1500-2000 so in that respect it's very cheap.
Have tarmac aswell and hate it. Looks horrible and gets very mossy.
