Looking to change my mk5 Astra 1.6T in the new year for something german but not really clued up on the german motors so looking to see what cars & engines people would recommend could be 3 or 5 door.

But there is a few things i would like.

Factory xenons
Petrol
Turbo
Average no less than 30mpg
10k max or less
FWD

Being from a certain country is no guarantee or indicator of either of those things.

Octavia vRS TFSi (essentially a Golf, even though it's got a Czech badge)

Take your pick of any generic vag product then, they all pretty much fit your requirements.

Would definitely consider a quattro AWD.

Also what are people's experiences with the DSG & S tronic gear boxes?

I've driven a MK V DSG Golf with my old foreman and we both concluded that DSG stood for Dog Shit Gearbox.

Others may be better.

Driven an Audi a1 tfsi with dsg and its the bollocks. The in law had an a5 Quattro before and the way it could launch out of a corner made me queasy, was incredible.

Not sure about the reliability complaints around audis, never had a single problem with any of his.
