So me and my mates have decided we are doing one of the above.

Tough Mudder has pretty much been ruled out, unless we do it next year. Survival of the Fittest which starts at the Etihad is my favourite at the moment but it is 10k, YMR in Leeds and TS in Birmingham are both 5k.

All of us go to the gym, but only myself does cardio. So they are going to start running, cycling etc.

I think some on here have done TM but has anyone done the others? And any tips?!

As I have said numerous times, I did Tough Mudder London South in 2013 (apparently the toughest Tough Mudder in Europe) with no training, dressed as a fluffy chicken.

You don't need to be massively fit, if you can run 1k, you'll be fine!

All you need to get through is a good team of mates who like to have a laugh.

I also did it in 2014 after getting back in the gym and playing football. Found it only marginally easier, but that was perhaps not wearing the chicken suit.

I did Survival of the Fittest when it was at Battersea, wasn't really that hard tbh so long as you have a general level of fitness. It was a good day out, although try and get early bird prices for it if you can

I did a 10 mile Total Warrior one year, then the next year I did the double, basically a 10k on the Saturday then the 10mile version on the Sunday.

I'm a fat cunt but I did train for them, by train I mean a couple of 10k jogs round flat as fuck coastal roads a week for a few months before.

I did Manchester MH SoF last year and we've booked again this year.

Its in November so its fucking cold and you "swim" across 2 canal sections and float down 300m of storm drain which is pretty brutal (although many walked or got out of the storm drain)

I did sod all training for it, although I can run 10km etc. but I'm a weedy fucker. However I'll be preparing better this year.

The worst part is the cold tbh. I cramped up about 500M from the end and was in agony. My mates literally dragged me over the final 8ft wall.

You don't really feel the distance as it is broken up by obsatcles.

Most obstacles are okay.

I can't get over walls unaided it seems. Even the 6ft ones.

Wouldn't do it unless I was in a team of mates but then everyone helps everyone else out, apart from the elitists in the 1st wave.

Well worth doing.

Did the Men's Health one in Notts a few years back, turned out to be 13k but with obstacles every 1km or so its fairly easy.

As saidz no point in fancy shoes and they'll be trashed, I got some new balance cheapos from sport soccer and they were fine

Just make sure whatever you use that they won't crucify you over 10km! I wore my old road/gym trainers last year beacause I knew they were comfy over the distance and tbh they were okay. Unless you are actually racing the event go for comfort.

These get good reviews...

I've used something very similar to these: http://www.sportsdirect.com/hi-tec-r156-mens-running-shoes-120020?colcode=12002038

Done two Tough Mudder (12 miles) and a 10k Tuff Enuff (mostly bog) in them, washed me off and they are fine, done 2 months at the gym in them as well

I have done a couple now and got 4 lined up this year with Mike (neo off here), we're doing Winter Warrrior at the end of the month 10km, then doing the spartan trifecta in September (5th Sept - 5k, 20th Sept - 13k, 27th Sept - 20k)

Only thing I would say advise is shoes.... make sure they are comfy and your used to running in them and that you tie them really tight, seen on a few runs where people have lost shoes in the boggy mud right at the start of the run and had to do the rest bare foot.

then its just a case of realising your going to get muddy haha seen so many people mincing about jumping over puddles etc despite the fact they just swam through a lake.

Apologies, titty tape only needed for those who don't wear a bra.

Yes, but once you jump in to a huge pool of water, nipple chaff soon occurs.

It is not just like running 10k.
