Going to look at one of these on Saturday, just wondering if anyone has an experience of them?

Seem pretty hardy with the bombproof 1.9 pd engine. Anything to look for bar water leaks and general wear and tear?

Car itself looks very clean, 1 owner , lowish mileage etc.. Only concern being the previous owner had the clutch and flywheel done a year again and replaced the DMF with a solid one. Asked a few folk and everyone seems to have a different opinion whether this is okay.

One of the best cars i ve owned! Good on fuel, good bit of get up and go and not expensive to run.

Common problem is water coming in through the rear door seals. Can be fixed fairly easily. I never worried about mine.

Flywheel option is no problem. Wouldn't be overly worried about that.

My old car i sold to a friend and he has sold it recently with 149k on the clock and it didn't once let him down!

Spot on mate, this one is on 65k so should have a fair bit of life left in it yet.

Had a shot in one a few weeks ago that had been remapped , miltek and panel filter. Couldn't believe how well it went whilst returning decent mpg

I have a '54 VRS on 99,000 and it's great. I've done 65k in it and it hasn't really missed a beat.

Things to check I would say are:
Front and rear sills between the rubber and plastic foot well trim for water - this is dead easy to fix, you just reseal the door panel.

Has the timing belt and water pump been changed? If not, it'll be due soon, so you're probs looking at a £300-£400 job for that.

Console bushes are prone to go

Other than that, just general maintenance costs really. You hear horror stories about leaky turbos etc, but touch wood, I haven't had any issues with mine

Agree with above. With a little remap go like fuck. Just fitted a new outer door seal few weeks back. Good on fuel. Only thing I find is seats can be a pain to keep clean due to there ccolour

Looked at these a while back. Still holding there value well.
Only thing that stopped me is the looks, a little bit boring

Common problems, DMF and clutch, front wishbone bushes, boost pipes broken/leaking, intercooler leaking, turbos dying.

Interior holds up pretty well though, my dads had 200k on his and it still looked good. If you find a black one with the plate FE06 WYC, give it a miss as it has been clocked

Hello

Yep, got mine on 106k, now turning 170k, in 2 and a bit years.

Cambelt: Had mine done at Skoda for £280 fixed price.

Console bushes: I bought ones with poly bushes in, £50 the pair.

DMF: Had mine done when I got it, paid £700, Skoda wanted £1,300.

Same as any other VW/Skoda/ Audi for parts costs, expensive. But not much goes wrong.

Mine has Xenons and Heated seats, so very rare, but the standard white seats are rank within two weeks of normal use

Mine has had a remap to 167bhp.
Doesn't sound much, but it also has 300ft lb of torque.

In real life, this means it WILL stick with a WRX Impreza to triple figures.

I can also cruise at 65mph and get 70mpg.

At 70mph, this doesn't drop below 64mpg.

Other common faults:

Boost pipe from turbo to intercooler. Tears. £140 from Skoda. £80 from Samco
Rear door seals. Just need some silicone on if leaking.

Other than that, great cars, silly fast with a remap.

However, bit wollowy in the corners and the brakes are not the best.

Love mine.

Also, a solid flywheel creates a little more chatter on idle, that's about it.

Spencer, do you have any printouts/graphs from your remap? Sort of tempted to get mine done, but I've seen some really aggressive maps

A solid fly wheel can create other issues with bearings too

At home yes.

Mine is quite progressive but does boost very well at 2000 rpm.

When mapped you shouldn't floor it under 1800 rpm.

I've still got mine it's on 152,000 and engine and gearbox still feel really strong, it's had a new turbo but was to be expected at its around the 200bhp mark, great car only thing that I've never really liked is the "plasticky" interior ie dash and door cars ect. and the window cables are a bit shit know a few people me included that have had to replace them more than once .... Other than that still really enjoy it .... As regards to maps mine is really agrrssive especially in the lower gears but with a decent set of tyres on its plenty manageable

Saw this too late to place my opinion.

Great cars, I've an '06 vRS BLT engine. One huge thing is to check what oil they have used as PD engines MUST use VW 505 01 oil otherwise, like mine, cams fuck up.

Mines an 06 BLT
However, mine has always had proper PD oil

Cheap turbo?

Sounds to me their was a separate fault causing the turbos to go.

Mine os on near 170,00 miles and turbo is fine.

Completely seperate reasons, first one went because a piece failed and it ingested it (standard original OEM turbo), the second (a garrett replacement), failed when some seal popped and oil was sucked in

Even that aside I wouldnt have another, premature bush wear, harsh ride to name a few

Swap bushes for TT ones and that alleviates the problem.

Ride is slightly harsh, but sport suspension and low profile tyres doesn't help.

You mean Ibiza cupra? TT has different suspension
