Keep finding myself looking at M3's again; and an urge I really want to scratch again!!
I had one years ago for a short period of time and really did like it
Now drive an Octavia VRS which has little use as travel with work has dropped off and at christmas bought my wife an electric Renault Zoe so we use that everywhere now because it costs virtually nothing!!
Current cars:
I have been looking at a later e46 convertible so 05 plate as later and the tax increases! Something with around 70K on; found these two on eBay which I am tempted by but not sure if I really should!!

Are they getting a bit old now tho is my concern or is now a good time as a good one at the rite price shouldn't loose much and still be awesome fun?

However I tihnk they are commanding too much of a premium now. All the "Good" ones are stupendous amounts of cash

That green interior is vile 
The value seems to be climbing pretty rapidly on these at the moment.. I had one for a few months and turned a pretty good profit lol..

If thats Kiwi then the photo makes it look more green than it is.
I always wanted a Red/Black one or a Silver/Blue leather example.
Getting on now too, most are 10+ years old

...Just read you have to RENT the battery from Renault.. So even though these are 8-9k second hand you have to pay £70/month on top of that..

Problem with them is that Renault charge rental on the battery, which is a horrendous amount.

As for the M3 would want manual as had the later auto box and fear the SMG may feel not as good. Its the Kiwi leather than drew me to the black on to be honest :-)
The zoe is good; the range is about 80 miles realistically. Really nippy does begin to run out of pull as you go over 65 but to be expected for what it is; perfect as a second car but wouldnt be a suitable replacement for just one car IMO. Charging at free public points is slow; 8-12 hours; but the home chanrge point we have is 3hrs from flat; generally plug it in each night and done in an hour. Had some good deals on them which is why we ended up with one

That pretty much offsets any savings in fuel/tax you're likely to see (over another super economical car) though!

My only advice is to get a manual even though they could fetch up to £2k more for the same spec car and either get one with the subframe fixed or factor in the £1400 or so to get it fixed.

It doesnt save but worked out for the running of her old corsa, maintenance, servicing, tax etc it was about cost neutral and means she has a brand new car with 4 years servicing and warranty which is safer and nicer than a 05 plate corsa.

I looked into a Zoe for work use, seemed decent but the battery rental cost was more than I would have spent on diesel with a Clio so didn't make sense.
They have dropped the prices though.

I agree, a little Renault dci lump would be returning 50-60mpg+.. The Residuals on the Zoe are terrible too!

Good thing with EV's which is better than internal combustion for me is my incredibly small journey to work where my petrol DS3 doesn't even get up to operating temp!

Just under £3 from flat. Although my wifes work place have installed a charging point so in theory she can charge it for free so little need to pay for charging
