I saw the stills on Twitter before i saw the actual footage and my first thoughts were "fuck off, thats GOT to be a photoshop" it just looks ridiculous.
Amazed that only 12 are dead [last i heard] from 58 on board. When you look at the angle and speed thats coming down its crazy that anyone survived.

I thinks it's a miracle that anyone survived it. In the vid there's loads of shit it could have crashed into but the thing ended up in a river. What are the chances of that.

I know it looks completely out of control but i wonder if the pilot was aiming for it, hence the steep angle it took as it came down. If so, that is a quite superb bit of flying and undoubtedly saved a lot of lives, given the amount of city that was available to hit.

Another clip from further back

Certainly looks like the pilot manoeuvres it. Crazy stuff

I'm not sure, he's clearly losing altitude and it could be that the left wing stalled causing it to roll like it did. It looks like the number 1 engine is out, although I'm on my phone and it isn't too clear. Still should be able to climb on the other engine though, assuming that was still working.

Depends on whether an engine quits after the decision point but before the safe rotation speed. I forget which V this equates to, but on multi-engine aircraft there's a green line on the airspeed indicator which is your safe single engine takeoff speed.
It does look pretty nose high and a wing drop like that does indicate a stall though - scary stuff

I'm wondering more now if some of the air companies, especially in the far east, are scrimping on paying for decent pilots, or not fully funding the training to save costs. That recent malaysia crash was caused by the pilot climbing at a stupid angle

The Air Malaysia crash was caused by the aircraft flying through a CB cloud - a 737 cannot climb at 6000 feet/minute without a bit of help.

If you're in a mass of air which rising at thousands upon thousands of feet per minute then you're at the mercy of nature. Cumulonimbus clouds (sorry, couldn't remember the spelling in prev. post) are one of the most powerful natural phenomenons out there and the biggest ones can tear an aircraft to bits. They have been the cause of many an air accident too...
