Had a poorly RS4 in recently, it had been driven through floodwater and had low compression on cyl 1. Stripped it down, found one bent conrod, a damaged crankshaft and badly scored bore. Ended up replacing the bottom end, and timelapsed the whole lot again.
Hope you guys enjoy it

Great video! It's amazing how much there is to strip off the engine just to get down to the bare block amazes me how you can still remember what goes where! I'd love to have the skills to do this sort of thing.
Do you have to be a "master technician" to work on RS's and R8's etc? I'd imagine they don't let apprentices loose on them

Whenever I do a large job, nut and bolt management is what gets me, even if I keep them altogether in a pot I can never remember which ones go where, some are the same but different lengths etc, how do you deal with that?

Nice video!
I'm shocked its not more cost-effective to fit an entire new engine?

I suppose it's like anything really. Experience is key.
My mate strips thw rejected engines in work down to bare block, then rebuilds them. I always ask him how he know's what goes where and he said it's all down to time on the job. He' been doing it years so it's normal to him.

normally these time lapse videos make the job look like a piece of piece, but that still looked an absolute bastard to do.

Just me that uses bits of cardboard and diagrams to remember where bolts go?
Although I doubt a Master tech does that

It's weird you just seem to know, I can strip an engine down and it'll be months before it goes back together due to machining work being done parts being made and ordered etc and still when it goes back together it just all kind of makes sense and falls into place!

you are clearly too stupid to be attempting the tasks you are if that is a serious question

Says the bloke who delivered tyres for a living and leaves skid marks in his underpants.
I bet my entire annual salary I am more intelligent than you.
I was merely interested what they do with all the small parts at this level you fucking Neanderthal.

I often leave what I can in the hole it came out of.
The rest, i'll either leave somewhere conspicuous on the vehicle, nearest it's correct location, or they get lined up on the bench in order.
Still get some head scratching moments.

I seem to know the corrado bolts and nuts too well. had it apart so many times now. or just look at a parts diagram on vagcat and tells you everything.

Also as corrado was hand built I tend to take the attitude that don't worry about how it was already put together but find the best way to put it together as sometimes bits have been fitted wrong in the past or even at the factory. Seen some funny wiring routes.

quite touchy when someone questions your intelligence? Do people often assume you are very dumb in daily life?

3 engines. 2 gearboxes. Clutch and timing chains, and treating rust etc
The only bit I've never removed now is the sunroof
This time round should be the last time for a long while as nearly everything is new and won't be driving it much.

Good grief Jim!
Have you done moon miles in her, or did you just have a run of bad luck with used stuff etc, or do Corrados just eat parts like nutters?
