As above, you guys are usually brutally honest with your opinions on things

R53 Cooper S 2002 88K miles, very clean £2750

Planning on doing a few tweeks to make it faster, Pulley, Spark plugs, Intake and exhaust

What do you think

Depends if you can cope with a very firm and bumpy ride (the run flats are really uncivilised), no spare wheel and a tiny boot.

Run flats will be ditched. Same as I done with our E90. Dont need a huge boot as have the E90 as teh family car

They drive pretty nicely with proper tires on.

They're not quick but they're not slow.

Power steering pumps can do some very naughty things.

Get yourself a facelift one instead. Well worth the extra few quid. Few common problems fixed on them and a nicer looking interior

I love mine. 212bhp 252nm. 16%pulley, home made airbox, cold plugs, intercooler, manifold and catback. Makes boss noises. Pulls like a train. Handles like a go kart. As above. Run flats are shite

2008 is a r56. It's turbo'd and the engines are made out of chocolate. Haha.

R53 was the charged version with the bullet proof engines

Test drove one with a view to swapping from my diesel golf. The noise is fun, but doesn't feel fast on the road. Got back in the golf and it felt far more punchy.

Always fancied having a go of one of those early 'Works GP' ones.

The one with orangey red mirrors, funky rims and no back seat.

Just to see if they had added any excitement to the package.

The normal variants seem like they need a lot more power and as though they could handle it too.

Always liked the quirky look of the GP.

Cool little cars, my Mrs had one after I persuaded her to buy one, was totally standard with Hankook v12's on it and it handled awesome. Lacking in power but not at the same time, just really have to work the engine then they are pretty nippy little cars.

Although most do say it's lacking power. It's so easy to get that power out of them.
Pulley, cooler, plugs and a belt and your laughing, plus it only costs £150 for the pulley plugs and belt. Then £250 for a second hand GRS intercooler. Then chuck a catback and manifold on it and your above 200bhp easily.

I had a 2005 R53 about 18 months ago, as standard they are nippy, but do need revving to get the most out of them. After a couple of months I go the Dave F air intake and had a 15% pulley fitted, the pulley made a real noticeable difference over standard power, pulled a lot harder all the way through the revs, and sounded awesome!

I owned it just over a year and is one of the only cars I would own a second time, I'm always looking out for a decent one! Unfortunately I'd find it hard to get rid of my R32 for one now

Superb cars, only second now. Steve done all the mods I asked him to do and got 208bhp on rollers last week. Facelift ones are far less problematic with updated gearbox and supercharger.

Nice, but whats with the smallest wheels in the world? I thought the older ones all came with the thick multispoke alloys?

whats the average price for getting the Pulley fitted?
Do you need a remap afterwards or any other supporting mods?

I paid around £300 for a 15% pulley kit, supplied and fitted, that included the cooler running spark plugs. No remap required. They usually say that a 15% pulley is ok with no supporting mods, but when getting a 17% pulley or smaller, you should upgrade your Intercooler as well
