anyone got any real world experience that could recommend what type of carpet, sound deadening and insulation to use? the wooden panels are already in the van, but im looking at shaping the carpet up to the rear door seals etc so it would need to be something workable/ply-able.

You will probably just get people on here recommending you use flashing tape rather than something designed to do the job correctly.
Silent coat stuff looks good and comes recommended by people who know what they are talking about. No experience personally though.

Iv done a few with thin specific van lining carpet but did my mk4 Astra van with house carpet lol always used this stuff to stick it down

When we did my mates van he used yoga mats as a light insulation underneath the board.
I though he was mad but looking on the net its a common practice. You can do the whole rear for about £30 and its made of exactly the same stuff as certain van insulation , however it's about 1/10 the price

cheap is good.
my mate used some stuff that looked like silver bubble wrap padding from b+q for his, says its perfect and is cheap but they dont seem to sell it any more.

I used kingspan under a ply floor in my van, the bed and 2 units held the carpet in place 
Behind the doorcards I PVA'd that bubble stuff to polysterene sheets and put that in, worked lovely.
Over the engine deck my Dad bought me some specific two stage sound deadening, a foil/flashing tape style underlayer and a dense foam overlayer. I'll see if I can find that stuff.
Worth going a little mad if you're camping in it.
I did use flashing band/tape inside the front doors and on the roof.

I bought a load of that sub box carpet for the back of my landrover, worked really well to quiet the sound of stones flicking up on the arches.

possbily sleep in it once or twice a year, its just a day van really and for moving bikes around in. wont be making it into a camper.

it does need to be hard wearing though as it will have people and bikes in and out of it a lot of the time. if i search for specific van stuff it seems to be mega money. whereas its obviously just material thats available cheaper.

What's the reason for choosing carpet for some where that is going to often get wet and full of mud from your bikes? I would of thought about plastic/rubber tiles.

yeah the floor is going to be vinyl, this is for the walls im asking, and around the wheel arches/towards the rear door seals.

I used standard (cheaper end) house carpet for mine on the floor, it's worn really well. Just nothing cream and thick pile!
