Saw my first one today, looked alright basically smaller version of the 3.

However I thought this was the 2 series:

Top one is the real 2-series. Bottom one is a front wheel drive abomination that BMW should feel very, very bad about putting in production.

Hope to have a 2-series coupé one day. Lovely looking car imo.

Not really, as there's no 3-series coupé any more. It's based on the (previous?) 1-series.

Roughly the size of an E46 coupé, which imo is perfect.

Looks like any other BMW, tbh i can't tell these days, i just think everything is shit and probably rented, even supercars are rented these days, so the man you think is doing really well because he has sleeve tattoos, a beard and drives a lambo is probably working at carphonewarehouse earning £12 a hour.

That 2 series looks very bland.

I've seen a blue one and it looked a bit squashed.

The 6 series is the best looking bmw currently imo. The 3/4 series has weird headlights that join up with the grille, looks odd.

Needs to be the coupe though Ben. Extra doors look weird on the 6.

Preferred the older 6-series, personally. Everything about that design just works.

Not really any point in comparing it to the 2-series though. Drastically different price point. Especially over here...

Did you hear the X1 is inheriting the AT front wheel drive?

For a company that has based a lot of their marketing as well as their slogan "Sheer Driving Pleasure" on the fact that all their cars are RWD they sure are making some absurd choices lately.

Next they'll be putting out 3-cylinder engines or something equally bizarre.

I'm a fan of the 2 series, will look to change into one or a 4 series in 18 months time probably. Problem is, entry level spec ones look poor, they need to be M-Sport spec with nice wheels etc. walk into any BM dealer and look at the cars in the showroom, 95% will be M-Sport etc. M235i is a lovely motor IMO. Loving my M135i currently tho!

The new 1 series will be FWD too, it is claimed 80% of 1 series owners didn't know they were RWD. Also the new 1 will get the same 1.5 3cyl engines which come in the MINI

TBH most people see Clarkson drifting around the top gear track in a BMW or merc and think thats what they want in their life.

They get the RWD car and do about half a metre wheelspin out of a junction maybe once a month.

RWD/FWD, doesn't really matter these days for the majority of people, only those who think of themselves as the next stig use it as pub ammo

Rwd cars with some power drive much better than fwd equivilents. It's just easier to get the power down and it's nice not to have to understeer everytime you turn.

That's completely besides the point though. As is whether BMW owners drive in a manner that utilises the advantages of RWD or if RWD makes any difference in your daily commute.

The point is that RWD does have advantages over FWD and BMW have always made it a point to highlight these advantages. Not to mention it's a core part of their legacy.

I don't doubt that from a financial or business point of view, going FWD and 3-cyl as well as making people carriers makes perfect sense for BMW.
However they're decision made based on what will have the best sales numbers, not on what will give the best products.
