On the 23rd Dec the flat above' washing machine went bang and pissed water everywhere for a few hours. All the water came down the walls and soaked most of my place through 
Anyway, nothing could be done until next week so I ripped up the carpet - two weeks with soaking carpets would stink!
My spare room has always been a shit tip since the day I moved in (even messier now than usual though as I had to move a bunch of stuff in there due to the flood). However, I've been doing a lot of remote working from home recently so need a study to do that in, so I've decided to turn this room into one.
I thought it would be best to do it all in one go while the other work gets done. So to start with, I wanted to put up a built in wardrobe in the alcove in the corner to store all my junk in.
Anyway, that's as far as I've got for now. Will find out when all the other work is getting done next week.

Yup, the landlord of the flat upstairs is liable since is was caused by his bloody old washing machine that had never been maintained. He also is to fork out the first £1k of repairs too.
It gets a bit more complicated too, since it's a leasehold the building owner covers the buildings insurance (i.e. the laminate floor) and my contents insurance covers the carpets. Don't want to have to make a claim on my insurance though as it wasn't my fault though.

Not quite, it's bedroom 1, the kitchen/living room and the hallway. Bedroom 2 looks like it's had a little bit of water in in that I didn't notice but I'm not sure I'll get away with having to carpets done in there on the insurance - maybe just a shampoo

The previous owner glued a mirror onto the wall  I needed it gone so there was only really one option...

It happened at about 3pm - he was at work and luckily I was working from home!

So his contents insurance covers your flat even though it's outside his? Does the tenant not have the policy?

Did some more work on the study today. I sanded the filler down so now the walls are ready to be plastered:
Think the plaster is going to come some time next week to get it all sorted

Why not just tape the plaster joints and let the plasterer fill over? Not quite sure on the necessity of filling/sanding......

Was just going to drywall the wardrobe. But taking the mirror down left a hell of a big hole and I don't think I'd get away with a drywall repair on that so it needs plastering. Getting both walls sorted at the same time is cheap so decided I'll get them both done.

Terrible photos, but I had the builders and decorators in while I was on holiday. Had them make some architrave and skirting to match all the rest of the place The walls are painted a feint grey and the woodwork is satin white.

It's a Wickes colour, Powder Grey, but they had it colour matched at the Crown shop 'cos money.

Had to weather a bit of a battle with the insurance company r.e. getting the wooden floor done. But work finally started last week on getting the place back to normal. Got my study carpeted today:
Decorator is just painting my bedroom at the moment

Nice. Love the exposed brickwork. Do you live in a converted industrial building or does it just have a lot of character because of how it'd decorated?

It's a 105 year old shoe factory which was converted into flats about 15 years ago. The brickwork is 'real' i.e. they're the external walls - there's no insulation on them and they're a bit draughty! It's an interesting place though, certainly a bit different to a purpose built property
