Just looking in my haynes manual and its going on about SOHC and DOHC engines? Im i right in thinking that stands for Single over head cam and double over head cam??? If so..... my 1.4 16v 95 sri would be the SOHC right?!
If not, then WTF?!

no ur 1.4 16v will be a DOHC - double over head cam mate, same as the gsi

thats why if u buy cams for DOHC cars its allways more expensive cos ur buying 2 cams and all the other bits that come with it

8valves are pretty pants to be truthful.
82bhp compared to 90bhp for the 16v engines, and u can rev the 16v's a lot higher, and dont start goin on about low rev range torque coz we are only talking about a few ft/lb units. 16v DOHC's are expensive to fix but are more tunable and quicker in the long run.

and all DOHC engines are too big to work on in a corsa engine bay. when i did the head gasket on mine i kept thinking to myself "why didnt i just buy an 8v"

the corsa 1.0 12v is DOHC but with 3 cylinders instaed of four. the vectra 2.6 is quad cam and 32v

theres nothing impressive bout having quad cams on a v6 or v8. they only got quad cams coz they have two heads i.e twin cams per head per bank.

no the vectra 2.6 is a V6 with four cam and 24valves if it had 32 valves u would have to have 5.3 valves per cylinder and that wont work

Not neccesarily. You can get cars with 3 valves, and 5 valves per cylinder, like the Audi TT

Wrong. Scoobys are 16v, but have quad cams. Also a lot of Jap engines, and my dads 2.0 4 Cyl Diesel Vectra have single over head cams, but 16 valves  .

hell even haynes say 1.0 12v corsas are DOHC.

at the end of the day 16v's own 8v's i have a 1.4 8v spi, its nice to drive but i want more, thats why i'm getting a 2.0l 16v

Sorry my mistake there not. They could have been though. The scoobys engines are like a "V" engine, only the angle is 180 degrees, so there flat. Because you have two banks of cylinders, you'll need two camshafts, and because there 16v i thought they might have two camshafts per bank, but they dont. They only have one camshaft, but it has 8valves on, and of course you have two of these camshafts, so yeah tere only twin cam.
(i'll also be amazed if that made sense )

the scooby engine is called a boxter engine,same as the porshe engine.
dont 4 get people about the early push rod cams (that shud confuse things sum more)
