Just been for a meeting with my personnel officer and she has offered me a new job. I knew I was getting a promotion so was happy about that but the job is in Canberra!

It is a 23 hour flight away and I'd be out there for 3 years!

I don't have to take it but the money I would be earning would easily be double what I am earning now! I'd be given a house rent free, car rent free, a generous travel allowance for trips back to the UK, school costs for the kids, tax reduction due to family attending with me, hardship allowance the lot. But Canberra, I really don't know what to do. Think the missus would go ape shit if I asked her about it!

I've got some talking to do when I get home!

We'd both be leaving our friends and family behind, would probably get pretty lonely, especially for her whilst I'm at work. I really don't know what to do. I'm thinking no but the...

£££'s

Are making me think twice!

assuming you are making decent money, if you are living rent free, you could prob save enough to come back over here in 3yrs and buy a house without a mortgage.

what do you do? why can't they just hire some aussie to do it and not have to fork out as much?

The wage would be around £30,000 per annum inc. allowances, that doesn't seem big until you consider there will be nothing to spend it on! Everything is paid for, all you buy is food, clothes and telephone bill. Everything else I dont worry about!
