from my experience:
1. the amps in them are crap, they may be 50x4 but the rms value is like 1 rms compared to toehr brands which sound a million times better for the same money.
2. the amps fry for no reason.
3. the are built badly.
4. they scratch cd's

yeh - I have a Sony System in my car - apart from the factory shite door speakers (which WILL be upgraded very soon) sony Head unit 4x50w, 220w 6x9's, Sony Xplod Amp and one o dem new 12" Xplod P5 Subs - no bother!! I'm happy with it..

what is it with ppl on here and sony headunits, ive had mine for nearly 2 yrs and its been great, not had any trouble with it, it sounds decent and it looks good. ok i admit the subs do sound shite compared to others, and ive heard that big sony demo car and it was pathetic at best. But like i say i dont see what people have agianst thee head units and if you amp everything then i dont see as it matters anyway.

1 if ur using a sony head unit in good system - then there is little use for the internal amp.
2: not if u dont use them - cause ur running mps from them as oppose dto the standrd internals
3: had mine nearly 1.5 years and had nothing go wrong with it at all - part from the surround not staying on - but that was my fault for bending retaining clip
4: I have tape head unit and 10 cd changer - the changer hs never damaged a cd - the tape plyer in the head unit has never caused a problem
and
5 - they look damn cool tbf, I have the dual face one and really impressed with the aesthetics

Ok so they may be durable but they still DONT have the quality internals of some other units. I think they spend far too much on aesthetics and to be honest thats the MAIN reason why anyone who ive spoke to buys them! If todays sony units skip ANYTHING like the units of past years then god help us!

mine doesnt skip - well the chnger doesnt - very very good - only thing about the changer is the 10 disk cassete is stuck in at the mo - dropped it off at C-E-L this morning to be fixed. basically the buttons busted- but the guy reckons hes never seen that happen b4 and its a 5 mins job - but they didnt have the part in stock 2day - so gotta wait

sonys dont have 4 volt outputs either, the quality of the laser and phonos are jiz compared to alpine, kenwood etc..

got a sony minidisc headunit, been very happy with. What i don't get is why people would buy a headunit that looks shite, just because it sounds very slightly "better". can't really comment on speakers, as mine arn't sony, but my mates subs and amp provide plenty of bass.
