Hi All,
I saw this amp a while ago and am thinking to buy in in the distant future:
Its a 4x50w (4 ohms) 4 Channel amp (75w @2ohms). I don't understand anything about amps apart from they need their own power, weight a lot, make sound louder and clearer.
My headunit is a Sony M600 4x50w. Will this amp make my speakers sound better? The speakers will be Infinity 505cs Components and Infinity 609 6x9's probably.
It's £175. I want Infinity throughout to make it sound cool - ie not a mish-mash!
Whats everyone think?
Heres the spec:
4 x 50 Watts RMS @ 4 OHM
4 x 75 Watts RMS @ 2 OHM
2 x 300 Watts RMS @ 4 OHM Bridged
2 x 450 Watts Max @ 4 OHM Bridged
Signal/Noise Ratio 92dB
Frequency Response 10Hz – 40kHz
Defeatable Low/High Pass Filters,
Continuously Variable 12dB X-over (30-320Hz).
Bass Boost +6dB @ 45Hz
I don't really get what any of it means

Has anyone got an opinion on it or experiences or anything?
Also,
I've found it cheaper - I can get it for £139.99
Would I be best going for a 4 Channel Amp or 2x 2 Channel Amps? The 2 Channel equivalents are £99.99 each.

I'm planning a very similar set up soon for myself
Sony CDX M600R headunit
Infinity 60.5cs components
Infinity RA7502 2 channel amp
Infinity 6953i 6x9's
I wasn't gonna amp the 6x9's as they drown out my current components (Infinity 50.5cs) just now all running off the H/U.
I was just gonna get the new bigger components and amp them alone to bring them up to level with the 6x9's.
Just need to save up for the new speakers and amp, that's the bit that always takes longest to do...

Thats great for the price! The s/n ratio is a little bit low for me but for the price you'll do hard to beat it!
Why not go on I.C.E forums and ask others who may have some experience with this amp, unlike myself. I'd say it is quite a 'rare' amp, never heard of anyone using Infinity amps, they are more known for their speakers.

Infinity don't use there own amps... They use JBL's in thier comp cars...

That sounds a little strange Infinity not using their own amps!
I was surprised at the price too - hence why I wathinking of buying it - having infinity thrughout.
My M600 HU makes my 505's distort at about 66% HU Volume - I guess thats the Sony HU not being good enough?
Would a 75w amp make a significant difference in quality?
Thanks guys!

I've got JBL comps up front and used the H/U to power them for a while until i got an amp.
when i added the amp the speakers sounded much clearer and much more powerful.

So just to clarify, the HU is 4x50w, the Infinity amp above is 4x50w - will I see a marked improvement?
My other option is paying about £175 for an Alpine V12 4channel amp, 4x55w aggain will I see an improvement over my HU?
Thanks

as said the infinity has a relatively low Signal to noise ration compared to the alpine, so i would say that the alpine amp would be a better bet if u can afford it.
U would see a marked improvement over HU using either amp tho m8.

Cheers Adi - The alpine is a lot smaller too - so will go side by side to my changer hopefully!
Can somebody also clear up what Ohms are!
Ie the speakers run at some ohms (think its 4) but the amps say stuff about 2, 4 and 8 - which is best etc and what difference does it make?
thanks!

Amps will usually produce less power but better quality at 4 ohms, and more power with less quality at 2 ohms.
So for trebble speakers (comps etc..) u want to run at 4 ohms (which all full range speakers are 4 ohm variety) and subs u usually run at 2 / 1 ohms as the quality dont matter as much as the brute force!
Just find an amp that matchs the power output of the speakers u r gonna run on it at the correct ohmge.
E.g. 4 Ohm comps running 4 ohm 75w RMS
u want an amp that gives out 75w RMS x 2 at 4ohm
2 Ohm sub running at 2 ohm 300w RMS
u want a monoblock amp that gives out 300w RMS at 2 ohm. This example amp will usually give out aboput 150w RMS at 4 ohm.

Thanks Adrian - thats cleared it up for me!
I was thinking Infinity Amp (above) but now Alpine MCV-340 (?) and a set of Infinity Kappa 6x9's.
Not too fussed about a sub - don't like getting headaches driving around, so 6x9's will be fine for my needs.
Cheers!

Where can you but audiobahn products from? They are american yeh? I got my 6*9's from mcs-direct but they weren't what i hoped for. thought they were faulty but costs me to send it back and then u get all the hassle. Thats the prob when buying online

Mcs-Direct are a 20 minute drive into Leicester for me I can browse their showroom before I buy
Just wondering looking at them 6x9's, would they be suitable for a stealth shelf - as they stick up quite a bit from where the screws go in??

Ok, Instead of going to the Infinity amp at the top of this thread, I'm now looking at this:
Its the Alpine MRV-F340:
Its spec is as follows:
- MAX Power: 100Wx4 (4Ohm Stereo), 250Wx2 (Bridged 4Ohm)
- RMS Continuous Power (Watt) at 12.0V
- 4Ohm Stereo 35Wx4
- 2Ohm Stereo 45Wx4
- Bridged 4Ohm 90Wx2
- RMS Continuous Power (Watt) at 14.4V
- 4Ohm Stereo 55Wx4
- 2Ohm Stereo 65Wx4
- Bridged 4Ohm 130Wx2
- S/N Ratio 100dBA
- 12dB HP/LP Crossover (30Hz-400Hz)
- MOS FET Power Supply
- DC-DC PWM Power Supply
- Discrete Pre-Amp Stage
- DC Straight
- Multi Mode Capability
- Subsonic Filter (3&4ch)
- Divider (Variable)
- Top Panel Adjustment
- Speaker Level Input Connector
- Input Channel Selector
- Gold Plated BATT & GND Insert Terminal
- Top Panel Power LED
- One Side Terminal Layout
All I need to know is:
1) Is this better than my 50wx4 head unit?
2) Is it good enough to power a set of Infinity 505cs components and a set of Audiobahn 6x9's?
3) Anyone know how big it is? I'm creating a 3d render of my boot proposal in 3D Studio Max and need its dimensions!
Thanks guys!

i'say yes its better than your hu, BUT those audibahn 6x9's require a good deal of power so id get the bigger 4 channel m8. Thats what i have coming.
MRV-F540
MAX Power: 150Wx4 (4Ohm Stereo), 350Wx2 (Bridged 4Ohm)
• RMS Continuous Power (Watt) at 12.0V
- 4Ohm Stereo (0.08% THD) 50Wx4
- 2Ohm Stereo (0.3% THD) 70Wx4
- Bridged 4Ohm (0.3% THD) 140Wx2
• 14.4V RMS Continuous Power
- 4Ohm Stereo (0.08% THD) 80Wx4
- 2 Ohm Stereo (0.3% THD) 100Wx4
- Bridged 4Ohm (0.3% THD) 200Wx2
• S/N Ratio 105dBA
• 12dB HP/LP Crossover (15Hz-8kHz<x1, x20>/30Hz- 8kHz<x1, x20>

I take it my 505cs comps will be ok under that load?

i'd say so and it'll work much better with the 6x9's. Costly tho!
If u fit it and your comps cant take it (which i think they will) then its a good excuse to buy some focal / audiobahn comps also LOL
