ok - i built a new pc last night - it all runs fine untill you try and play a 3d game then it just reboots - arghh! i have tried to install the newest drivers for both mother board and gfx - i have put DX9 on and run the dxdiag diagnostics bit - where it failed on the DX7 tests or something, i have no idea what to do - its very frustrating cos its not like its all cheap wank - i went for a pretty good make of mobo - msi - and a geforce fx5200 gfx.
anyone got any exciting new ideas?
i am gonna start trying - moving the memory about moving the modem to another port unplugging and plugging in the gfx card again - the only thing is its as stable as you like if u just leave windows runnning the only problem comes when u try run games - its freaking me out and it looks bad as i built this for a mate

If it reboots then I suspect you have some kind of memory/hardware conflict.

Have you looked at Device Manager in Windows to see if there are any reported problems there?

Pull everything out, just leave the bare essentials in - PSU, CPU, Mobo, RAM, VGA card.
Rebuild with minimal spec, get DX9 installed and then the most recent WHQL drivers - not necessarily the mostt recent Nvidia drivers - and see how you get on...

i have been i device manager and there are no problemos - as for bare essentials - other than the modem there is only bare essentials - i literally just installed windows xp and then the mobo and gfx drivers and then tried to run a game - i will try at lunchtime to get the problem solvad - at the end of the day i work in IT Support there are 5 technicians here so in theory we should be able to get it going but it owuldnt be the first time we have been baffeled - i mean it is a college so we cant be that good - lol

I suspect that you are sharing an IRQ with two major components, probably between your GFX processor and numeric data processor. Common problem with newly built machines.

Do as everyones said above.
Run on minimal hardware. So
Power supply, ram ( singl channel), keyboard, graphics card. take it from there.

my mate had excatly the same problem, pc was fine, but every time he wanted to play a game, his pc would reboot about i minute into the game.
Turned out it was a faulty mother board and the company had many complaints, recalled the lot. He got another mother board and it works great now.
