I've just been talking to some old m8s of mine who have said that the handling on 2.0 16v are shit. They were comparing it with a modded gsi, which is bound to have better handling since it is lighter but they did say at high speed if u want to through a 2.0 into a corner it just wudn't turn but just slide forward. Is this true?
I'm thinkin about a conversion.....but I want speed as well as handling. Would a 1.6 16v on throttle bodies and a few other engine mods be a better all round conversion than a 2.0 16v?
Comments ppl
cheers

if u just chuck a 2.0 in then yes handling will be crap as u have a more heavy front end, thats why u get suspension/brakes etc upgraded and set up then u will have no problems. ur m8 probably had a crap set up

would FK coilovers work well with a 2.0 lump in a corsa?
because they are less than £400 and seem a bit of a bargain to me

A 1.6 16v on tb's and a few extra bits will be just as quick as a standard 2.0 16v.

well if u go the 1.6 tuning route, its lighter so better handleing, BUT, theires alot less tourqe, costs more
2.0 16v conversion, heavier so poorer handleing, but has more tourqe and costs less
just depends on what u wanna do with it, u can oviously tune a 2.0 16v for little money to over 200bhp (compared to the same modds on a 1.6) so straight line racing it will be very quick
but if u want it for proper racing, round corners etc then 1.6, tho theirs no reason why a 2.0 cant handle as well as a 1.6, u just have to speed money on gettng the correct set up
also as said about FK coilovers, dont get the highsport ones, they will be way to soft, get their koining (sp) ones, adjustable shocks, much better

There is a reason why a 2.0 cant handle as well as a 1.6. The 2.0 is always going to be heavier for the same work. Its physics.

Think mine handles pretty good, FKs, front and rear strut braces, yokos and no rear seats.

How much heavier are we talking anyway? I bet theres not *that* much in it..
Playing around with the antiroll bars/suspension should sort out the understeer..

Talking about 50ish kg more. Its the position of the weight so far forward that causes problems.

heres a good questions...
my sri is lowered 60mm all round and at the mo it rubs a bit on the back (17's) and the arches cannot be modded anymore.
IF i was to get a 2L conversion would i have to raise the car slightly cos of a heavier engine?

on the front, yes, get heavier poundage springs wit hthe same drop and these will work out the same
rear might be affected a little, but the weight will be over the front end
try sitting on the bonnet and see

the 2.0 would probablt push the nose down a bit unless you get stiffer spings i believe...

mmm this has me thinking whether they'd handle like a lead tipped arrow. 50ish kg = a middle sized person sitting on the bonnet.

Can't you get a 1.8 engine to go into the corsa? Would that be easier to fit and a little lighter?
