Opinions of these, whats the performance figures, ive seen figures ranging from 8.2 to 9.4 secs to 60?

Thinking about getting one as i can really afford the insurance on a 106 gti. Are they tunable and do they handle as well as the Gti?
cheers.

1.3 8v Rallye which is a phase 1 model does 0-60 in 9.4 seconds.

1.6 8v Rallye which is a phase 2 model does 0-60 in 8.2 seconds.

The phase 2 looks just like a 106 GTi on the outside other than it does'nt have foglights, inside it is stripped out, does'nt have electric windows or central locking.

I wish I had got one instead of my GSi.

Not worried about leccy windows or central locking, can put the central locking on later with a alarm anyway.

8.2 to 60 is pretty good, the insurance is bound to be well lower than the GTI i guess.
So the phase 2 has the GTI arches aswell?

Yeah insurance is only 2 groups lower but that makes a difference when they premium is gonna be quite high anyway.
And insurance companies dont like the letters "G" "T" and "I"

CIS quoted me around £3000, ill be 20 in a couple of weeks. 0 NCB, pass plus, good postcode, cat 1 etc, and a current policy discount.
They just quoted me £2300 on a 1.6 rallye

Aint tried tescos or HIC yet though, hopefully theyll be cheaper. Need anything under £2k for a GTI and ill be happy!

The S1 Rallye is more fun to drive, the S2 is more civilised(but quicker).

The S2's 8v engine lacks the top end punch of the 106Gti's 16v but isn't much slower in the real world

The S2 Rallye uses the same geabox/suspension as the 106Gti.

I think the S2 Rallye turns alot more heads than the Gti

Essential mods: lower it, 15" wheels
