Occasionally when my stereo is turned up loud my amp will lose power for about a second or so and i lose all bass. It happens a few times every song but not for prolonged periods. But if i turn it down a little i dont have this problem.

Why could this be??

not enough power to it? could be the protection circuit if it gets too hot.

if it is a protection circuit, shouldn't the amp cut out completely and not come back on after a second or so.

i think its needing too much power, maybe upgrade battery/alternator?

Its only a 200watt amp running one 12" sub and if u look at my avatar it gets plenty of space and is rarely hot after prolonged useage.

It may just be my amp, it might not be a common fault, afterall i've not heard about this problem from anyone else.

I thought power caps were for mad SPL systems with multiple amps and subs?

Either its a prob with the amp, your showing it the wrong resistance i.e (sub/ohms) or your voltages are dropping too low. Powercap will do nothing at all. Powercaps are "icing on the cake".
NOBODY needs to run a powercap unless they have upgraded to the biggest altenator they can get, upgraded their battery (maybe run more than one) and only if they have done all the above and are still finding they have a significant voltage drop in bass-lines.

not if the altenator isnt putting out enough voltage at certain current draws. A powercap smooths out the voltage to the amps to help super-sq orientated systems or SPL burps, if the altenator isnt giving enough power then the cap will not be able to re-charge quickly enough. Its just a band aid for poor, stretched electrical systems.

Well didnt manage to obtain a 120A, got a 100A Bosch multi-rib off a Vectra, seemed to have EXACTLY the same bracketry as my 55A Bosch UE had including the pully offset, except slightly larger pulley.
My engine (1.2 XE) has a self tensioning belt and although we though we might just be able to squeeze it on with the existing belt I prefered not to risk it and went for the 70A which is specificly designed to work with my 1.2 XE lump. So ive concluded that the 100A will fit perfectly but a new belt approx 25mm longer MAY need to be used instead.

The amp was set up by CEL when i bought it, in that case i may take my car back to them.

Personally mate its either a duff amp or lack of power and from the sounding of it its the latter since you dont have any probs with it when you have the volume low or mid-ish, though when ya wack it up (when the amp starts to draw power) it cuts out. To be honest mate, i would look at getting a new batter and see what happens - at worst, you'll have a new battery
As for powercaps, i always thought that they stored some extra power for when the amp needs a sudden burst of it - although it would make sense if you had enough power going to it, in the first place, to allow it to quickly charge back up again ready for the next sudden burst

hope you get it sorted mate
