i have a 1.6 16v sport with a pipercross induction kit and a custom cat back 2" piping and 4x4" tailpipe. on £10 it gives me 63 miles that's mainly local mixed with a bit or thrashing. before the exhaust it use to give me 80miles per £10 surely it can't make that much of a difference can it?
help! poor student here!

i have a 2.5 v6 mate and i have a pipercross viper and a custom cat back too, my fuel consumption has not altered since havin them fitted if anything its better. wot sort of driving are u gettin 63 miles to a tenner though  i get more than that when its all town driving 
perhaps it needs a good service/tune or maybe try resettin the ecu

Kerry - my car's been serviced 2 - 3 months back plus i've hardly driven it so i don't think its that. not tried resetting the ecu yet, but will try it tomoz. my main driving is local (town) driving and i know 63 miles is poor for a 1.6

80 miles is poor!
I do about 90miles to £10 in a 164bhp tb'd 1.6 16v....with a mix of driving......
Is it running ok?
It could be a few things:
Dodgy plugs/leads
Coolent temp sensor
Dirty air filter
A host of other things as well no doubt!

miles it's had a good service not so long ago. i thought 80miles to a £10 was ok. Take it u had better when your 1.6 was standard?
Anyway i took Kerrys advice and re-setted the ecu and the car run alot better. it feels more reponsive than before and the fuel needle has risen higher than it was before??
i don't know if anyone else gets this problem but my fuel needle drops dramatically when putting my foot down, then it'll rise again slowly when i've stopped.

I find that you tend to drive your motor in the power band more ,when its got wee mods like filter and exhaust ,without realizing,cos it sounds better.
Since i drilled my airbox its been hard not to let it sing.
i can squeeze 120 miles out of my sport 1.4 16v for a tenner , but thats being very conservative. I've had as low as 40-50 miles on a tenner if im fcukin about.

yeah i used 2 drive a diesel corsa it hurts a bit wen u get a petrol:s i get 100mile from a 1.2 8v which i thrash the nuts out of almost constantly!lol

i get about 350 miles to a full tank on mine which is a lot of motorway miles over 4k revs and a lot of urban miles in congested areas

hi,
ive got a corsa Gsi with viper and full exaust.....
i rinced my tank to almost empty the last Two times i filled up and drove with mixed type of driving somtimes jus slow crusing, long motorway journeys and Hard Redlining driving...basically a mix of everything and this is wat i found.....
the best petrol i reckon is SHELL unleaded! i got about 200miles from 20quid, and its a good quality petrol 
im now using SHELL OPTIMAX unleaded, i got about 100miles so far from 20quid and reckon the tank will hit redline in about 20 or so miles!!!! i thought this wud be better? but maybe performance wise it is coz it burns quicker?
but thats a difference of about 80miles

this is depressing
i only get 70 on a tenner,
and 220 on a full tank (£34)..
i don't even rag it that much.

I could do about 220miles to £20 on my 121bhp 1.4 16v, I only ran the 1.6 as standard for 1000 miles whilst I was running the engine in (well, still had mantzel power box, 4 branch, cams etc) and it did about 250 miles to £20 I think, but obviously that was taking it easy.
Throttle bodied cars can be just as economical at part throttle as standard engines.

miles u said earlier i could check a few other things (apart from the ones u have already listed). what are these? i just wanna check it over
by the way those of u who think i ragg my car to bits are wrong. i change gears under 3 revvs until i get to 5th where the needle sits at at around 2 revvs. when i do put my foot down, that when my petrol needle drops dramatically and u can see the difference!

i
mine did that too but i guessed it was due to perhaps over a period of time the gauge becoming a little out and the resetting cured it 
anyway fingers crossed its better now

i don't know if the fuel gauge is set off the ECU. i'm just letting u know what happened.
- can't be the exhaust cause i just got a new one (full system)
- don't think it's the brakes can't hear and friction noises and car does seem to drag.
-don't think there's a physical leak cause there's no wet patches when i revv the car and i can't see anything wet in the ngine bay
- speed will be out by a bit cause i'm running on 17's
- don't know what a lambda sensor is? maybe i'll check that if u tell me what it is

Lambda sensor (Oxygen sensor) is in the exhaust manifold, its measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases on part throttle and adjusts the fueling accordingly.
Only way to check it is to replace tbh.

so this means i have to take the manifold out replace the sensor and put it back together. or do i have to replace the whole manifold?
