i think i might get one tbh theyve always been my fave cars ever since i had a go in my ex-gfs brothers one, quick as fuck! i tried a few quotes before and was getting nothing less than £4,000 just for TPF&F... however after trying confused.com which someone recommend off here ive found i can get it insured for under £2,000 (elephant.co.uk)

some of you still might think thats crap, but im only 19 and have no NCB as ive only been driving for a few months! please gimme your opinions on this car, but dont just slag it if you dont like them... if anyone can tell me things to look out for when looking at one, if even just some cool pics thatll be grand lol

lol. dont laugh at me when i say this... but looking at the 0-60 time for one, its 7.1secs. and a CTR is 6.8...

so with a choice few mods from k-tec i.e. full exhaust system, manifold, viper kit etc you reckon a R5 could take a CTR?

i ask because my mates getting a CTR in a couple of months...

psycho: unfourtunity that quote was with the pass plus! however it seemed to only make about £150 difference anyway... maybe each insurance company rates them differently

sooty: thats alright i just wont tell them i know its dodgy but at the end of the day the cars only gonna be worth about £1,000 so even i write the car off im still not gonna claim... plus elephant seem really good because they have that "10 month NCB booster" thing which basically gives you 1yr NCB every 10 months rather than 12 months!

ollie if u do get one...make sure u av enough money to get the head gaskit fixed as ur bound to blow it.... R5 GTT r well known for over heating. so 1st thing id do if i were u is to get a low temp fan switch and stat from bb tuning.

my ex had two R5 GTT, a phase one and 2. they r nippy, but as said above its only coz its a turbocharged tincan which r great in crashes

i quite like R5 GTT but they are old and this means problems. Only worth it if you can find one wich a old granny has used to go to the supermarket once a week in.

I was looking at getting one b4 I bought the GTi... Be prepared to spend a lot of money just to keep it on the road...

I know they are not as good looking but seriously look at the Toyta Starlet Turbo... They do the same standing Quarter as a CTR, do 0-60 in 6.9 and are very tuneable.

They are import only but they are only a group 10 insurance! They are Jap and Jap = Reliable.

Heres a piccie of one...

And a standard engine bay...

I was looking at one before the GTi as well... Test drove a very nice one with HKS SUper Dragger exhaust, HKS BOV, HKS Mushroom filter... Was ready to buy but the sale fell through when the guy decided his brother wanted it! Sob sob...

I would still have one over my GTi but I got such a good deal on the GTi at the time that I couldn't be arsed.

Haha 2 True... Elephant seems to be very cheap for young drivers. They are just a lil 2 anti-mod for my liking... I'm with performance insurance purely cos they offered me discount equivalent to 2yrs NCB as I had been a named driver on another policy.
