So is this having the same effect as something like a mantzel inlet. Or is the origional vaux inlet still more restrictive even with this mod in place?
[Edited on 15-09-2007 by gavin18787]
The inlet is still restrictive, upper section mostly where the air has to bend 90deg to get the runners.
The plastic pipe is a big part of the restriction tho.
So if you fit something like a mantzel there is no need for this mod?
As the air filter comes off of the end of the chamber on them rather then the back

i still dont think the engine will suck that much air for that plastic pipe to really cause much of a restriction, maybe if there was a turbo in between sucking a lot of air, but not a small 1.6 n/a engine.
i dont reckon its any better than a bmc on the end of the black plastic pipe

No, youd just have a pipe with a filter on the end, on the drivers side like normal.

If its been proved on the same RR it gives a gain, then the pipe is a proven restriction...?

wheres the proof?
i suspect most of these gains shown here were from removing the airbox assembly rather then the plastic inlet tract itself

If that was the case, youd see the same power gain when fitting an induction cone in place of the airbox, which you dont

So your saying a 16xe with a induction cone, sees a 6/7bhp gain over standard?
Ive never seen that happen.

it was dans car that was used for the graphs on page 1
wether or not 7 bhp and a similar gain in torque will be noticable on the road, its still a gain, right through the revs and costs under £15.

Theres a stupid jubile clip type thing that holds the restrictive pipe onto the throttle body and if your carfull you can slide the pipe out from the airbox side
