Update
Loads of cleaning done, been on a crap 'lean' event at work, which involved me walking off a going on the wire wheel.
Thermostat and housing
Oil pump, I also checked the limits on the gears at work and they are well within the wear tolerances so I won't have to replace it with an inferior piece part.
Water Pump, again checked the teeth at work and there is no pitting or excessive wear and the bearing feels nice a solid and free.
Then just all the main caps, cam caps, main cap bolts, injectors, crank shaft pulley, cam pulleys and loads of other bolts
Only problem I found was on this cam pulley, I don't like the look of these gouges, looks like something was dragged through, so that will be replaced.
And finally some new parts thanks to 'alexhogben'
Throttle cable, Throttle cable bracket and all the coolant, vacuum and breather pipes off his C20XE conversion.
And if any are missing I've also got this lot off 'Luke'

Update
So many updates....so few replies
Cleaned up all my valves on the spinning chuck at work, about 0.5mm of crap came off each face and back so should improve gas flow!
Then tonight I have lapped all my inlet and exhaust valves in, which I realised was the first thing I've done towards rebuilding the engine so the rebuild is under way!

Thanks ,
That's it really, I'm in no rush, not like the 1.6 is painful to live with like the 1.2 was. I was going for a cheapish rebuild, but when I got all that high end stuff off Luke it changed where I was going with it. Do it right, do it once. That's what my mom told me she didn't really

should be changind the valve guides anyway as a safety sort of ting.. dont want to be building it up and having to take it apart again because the bugger smokes like a bitch due to worn guides.

If guides are fine, you dont need to replace, un needed expense.
Polo should be sorted this week after its adventure bringing the bits down haha

Update
Got my new Elring head gasket set
and my lower valve spring seats that were missed off the previous rebuild of the head.
Then today after work I cleaned up all of my wishbone, drag link and anti roll bar set up.
It was covered in flaking red and black paint, but the course wire wheel (read: flesh hungry) got all that off
cheeky before and after of the drag links:
and the lot done.
I will be hammeriting it all black tomorrow and then I think I might fit it all to my car on Saturday instead of waiting until I put the engine in, as it seems a waste just to have all the poly bushed stuff sitting there.
