Where i found any corrosion i took it back and cleaned the area up using a wire wheel and treated the metal. most of the underside has the old stuff left on. I have found this to be best otherwise you could cause more damp and rot issues by taking it off

Recieved a parcel today from Willay, replacement oil pump Thanks mate much appreciated for sorting it and sending it out so quickly.

Fair play for sticking at it, I'm not sure if this happened to me that I would be able to do it all again! I would probably push it back into the driveway and leave it there for months

Mark, yep gutting and very annoying. it will be fixed but at more cost than just a pump unfortunatly

FAZ, has crossed my mind a few times

Cheers Jamie & Darryl believe me this car has tried my patience more than the once but after spending all this £££ on it so far i cant just jack it in .. need to have at least one proper outing in it haha

Update: Maybe i was a bit too optimistic yesterday its going to take a little longer to fix than first thought.
found metal filings/fragments in the sump and after popping a cap off the shalls have worn, heres a few pictures for those interested

Timing belt and pully's off

Sump off, not a good sign

Checking the shells.. again not a good sign

Hopefully it'll make trax 2015!

Just as i feared i'm assuiming an old tired or failing pump could be the cause of this? low oil pressure and coupled up with the short run wore the bearings.
Just looking for a few opinions, if i was to get the crank re ground and new bearings etc. i wouldn't want this happening again.. could there be any other causes other than the pump?

Darryl, its not good at all but one of those things and in hindsight i should have checked/fitted a new pump myself at the start, but was under the impression it had all been done with the re-build. Maybe i'm too trusting. I shall try my best to get it sorted would love to make it to trax

Crank don't look great anyway, A grind wouldn't be a bad idea.
A blocked oil way could be the cause rather than a dodgy pump or it could of even been something it picked up out the sump.

What was the crank like on that one where its gone through to the copper?

If it was a engine that you didn't care about I'd say just put shells in it and ignore the rattle

Relief valve stuk? Have u put a sandblasted rocker cover on? What are the pump gears like and the housing? Also take the mains off and pt an airline through ech hole on the main. Number 1 main feed number 1 rod, number 2 feeds 2 rod, etc, c if blow any shit out or c if pickup pipes blockd or even a tiny crack im the pickup.

Righto, as you can see on the above picture the big end bearing showing copper is the worst one, the rest are hardly marked and the same with the mains.
I've blown out the oilways and have given them a clean but i couldn't see anything blocking them.
Pick up pipe looks perfect and is not blocked.

Phillip, Standard rocker cover is fitted but i have painted it, i dont think the relief valve was stuck as i had a SBD nylon jobbie in there which pulled out no issues.

I've had a few packages delivered, Mains bearings, Big end Bearings, Sump Gaskets, Crank oil Seal, Oil Pump Gasket, Magnetic Sump Plug, GM oil pressure/temp sender, Gearbox oil seals to name a few.

I shall hopefully get round to rebuilding the engine this weekend, it will live again and i may even get it on the road before the year is over haha

Yeah was quite a shock to find it in that state, engine had been sat around for about 6 months so that is a possibility.

Well the rebuild has been done, all new big ends and mains are fitted, new pump and crank has been re ground, new sump, 8v baffle plate and magnetic plug fitted too.
Hopefully i'll have this weekend free to get the engine back in the car & fit a couple of new additions to the exterior, new side skirts and new headlights

I really hope this rebuild has worked lol or i may be having a BBQ outside my house

just noticed in one of those pics...the big ends on one of the rods on 3 or 4 is the wrong way around....the bearing tans should both be on the same side of eachother...if thats how they were when took it out then that could be a potential cause
