So, i had a response from a very helpful chap at Lohen:

From the factory there are 2 diffs available:

1. Open diff - this basically does nothing apart from the basic wheel speed differentiation (when you are going through a corner). It has no locking properties, it is not torque biasing or locking in any way, hence the name open...

2. LSD diff - this is a diff you would spec on a Cooper S or may even get as part of a "pack" these days. We have taken one of these LSD diffs out of Cooper S before & they are pretty basic! To call them "LSD" is a big stretch of a definition, as they have very small plates & barely lock. That said they are a bit better than the open diffs....

3. E-diff - This became available on the R56 variants, not sure which models & at what time. This is not actually an "electronic" differential (ie. like you would find on a high performance Impreza, Evolution or something else fancy), but merely a combination of the MINI LSD diff & a program within the traction/stability control.

It works by applying brake pressure to the wheel that is spinning & hence assisting the fairly minimal LSD diff.

How to check
One of the simplest ways to check if you have a locking diff or not, is to jack one of the front wheels up & try to spin it. An open diff will provide no resistance, so the wheel will spin freely. An LSD (a proper one) will "lock" the wheels & you will need to apply force to overcome it so that you can rotate it. If you have a very powerful aftermarket LSD diff installed you may struggle to over come it, as it will provide a lot of resistance.

...........it would appear our has an open diff (wheel spins freely) on a 55 plate with the right gearbox code, chilli pack etc etc.

I suspect MJ's is the same as ours, and not an LSD diff?!

There shit LSD's anyway, so lets put it to bed. Chilli pack is the option to tick and you may have some sort of not normal diff. Night

Just to add.

If you are thinking of getting anything done to your Mini, 1320 are superb.

You are treated like an individual not a twat like every other tuning company I've used. I sat on a desk chair while he fitted the pulley, I got my car full health check before going on the rollers a compression check and a leak down test and a before and after rollers session.

£350 Fro.

They do leak down tests as they seem to suffer with an issue on cylinder 2, all of mine were at 6% leakage which is fantastic apart from cylinder 2 which was 15% but that again is fine and that could drop after fitting the pulley and more boost is pushed through the engine (he did explain in detail)

All I know is it goes like stink now.
