And believing an autocar review is about as good as believing what the daily mail prints.

I have to say I'm really looking forward to driving one of these after the way this thread has evolved.

Fingers crossed for a supercharged version next year

I can't wait until this is on topgear, complete with jeremy clarkson moving backwards and forwards trying to get more power from this wheezy engine.

I remember when 2.0 16v sports coupes were fast..... calibras, cav 2000 etc etc

200bhp is plenty in a fairly light rwd chassis.... anymore and all the (quote cs fanboy term) non 'elite' drivers would kill themselves.

The car is designed to sell..... not scare folk or kill them. There will be faster models.

Look at Elises, Z3, z4 etc etc... they all dont come with 350bhp and a hairy chest wig for all you MEN!!!

er, so how much is 'just a bit'

201?
220?
250?
300?

Its a NUMBER!!!!

For example... take an S2000 with whatever they have... 170bhp and race it against a 280 Impreza. Standard for standard..... I know what I'd choose to win a race (thats why you eant power, no?). Mr PubFigue would take whatever has the most power....

The GT86/BRZ may 'only' have 200bhp for now... but I bet you can use 90% of that power 150% more of the time when compared to a theoretical CS 'just enough' power lightweight 400bhp RWD scud missile.

top gears opinion

quote:
I suspected the same might be true of the GT86, but, hand on heart, this was one of my favourite cars. It’s not slow – it really isn’t – it’s just that you have to work to get performance from it, but is that a problem? It sounds sweet, is smooth and has the best throttle response of anything here, 911 and BAC included.

And I’m sorry, Ford and Vauxhall and Suzuki, but the Toyota is just better at corners than all of you. It’s nimble and light and has such a sweet balance of power and grip – sweet enough to be able to overlook the underwhelming cabin. And, yes, those narrow tyres mean the RWD GT86 is excellent at skids, but even if that isn’t your chosen angle of attack, it really doesn’t matter – the GT86 is as keen that you enjoy the experience as the Swift. It’s a real-world hero, and given that’s what we set out to find at the start, this is clearly an excellent place to finish.

VX220's and elises weigh nothing so don't need power to be fast, that's pretty obvious I thought?
