That much is true. The samco 90 was fitted when using it on the old car. Going to strip the bmc down and give it a clean and what not

Finished the valves off all done, just needs a wee clean up to get rid of the oil and what not, then jobs a gooden. Waiting for thermostat to turn up and then i can get that on and sorted

Decided to clean up the BMC today - given it was ditched

Going to sort out buying a re-oiling kit for it

Polished up the bracket, came up well

Gave filter a little clean out with the compressor

Then gave the casing a little polish up

Sticker was tatty so decided it was best to remove it

Much better

Off on holiday for a week now so the car wont be doing much, but when i get back i should have my thermostat, coolant, cleaning kit and bolt i need to carry on

I'm really impressed with your work matey, I remember your three week thread to change to 2.0l brakes back in the day

It looks great but remember to make sure the cam cover has no remaining powercoat underneath. That stuff has finished off a few engines on here before! Would ruin all your good work.

ah the good old days, I'm still the same now tbf but its just an engine instead of brakes, but good 'ol cs helped out

Thanks for comments. I've seen a couple areas that need cleaning off, ill give it a quick blast down with the compressor.

Well, back from holidays all refreshed
Time to crack on otherwise ill never have the car at PVS

Couple of parcels waiting for me when i got home
was looking at the BMC filter cleaning kit, but read up and the majority verdict was that they all did the same thing, so just opted for a cheaper K&N one.

Cleaned a fair whack out of what i thought was a reasonably clean filter

My cool running thermostat had also arrived

Old

New

Gf wanted something to keep her occupied, so let her paint the cylinder head

Not too bad

Had another attempt at getting out the water pump, but its fooking stuck solid Ive taken the three screws out and according to Haynes it should just drop out, but it isnt. Any ideas?

Gf came out and started cleaning away

Then set about and replaced the fuel injector seals
Old ones looked a bit worse for wear

All done

Thats all for now

Really nice car, waterpumps can be a right arse, just get a length of tube or a bar place it behind the pulley, and use a knock-ometer, usually does the trick! Mind your inner wing though cover it with something just incase the waterpump decides to take off quicker than anticipated.

Thanks

Another update.
Oiled up the filter now it had dried out fully, all rebuilt and waiting to be fitted at some point.

Egr swapped over for nice shiny new one The old one was sticking open every now and then anyways, causing the EML to come on. Just never got round to swapping it.

ICV also swapped for a nice new one - nothing wrong with it but i figured id just swap it whilst i was doing the EGR.

Finally got the water pump out with a bit more persistance!!

Old and new

Old one looking slightly worse for wear after

Cleaned the lower inlet out with carb cleaner and dried it off, came up not too badly

Then set about getting my sump off. Cleaned it all up too.

Was going well till i caught my finger Oh well, called it a day at that point

I fitted it in about 2 hours mate You've gone to a bit more trouble I think!

Doing a good job though - seeing as you've done this much, including painting the head, do you think it would be worth taking the block out and giving it a paint too?

Thanks.

Im thinking if i take anything more on now then im not going to make it to PVS at all. Plus id just love to have my car back on the road

Got to drop the pistons out and get the new rings and what not on, bearings done, then get them back in, and start rebuilding the bottom half and then set to on the head upwards, should be pretty well coming together after that! I think......

Got a bit of inside work to be getting on with now, given uncle brings round his piston clamp thing
If not, then ill sort out a bit more of my gauges and what not.

Sorted all the wiring out and tidied it all up

Got the piston rings off

And set about cleaning them up

All done eeee

Will get the new rings sorted after work tomorrow, then can look at getting them back in and the sump back on

Not updated for a couple days.

Uncle said something about deglazing, wasnt too sure, but meh

Gf got the remains of the gasket off for me

Sorted my rings out too

Went to replace my pollen filter as im still waiting for the piston ring clamp, but once i got it all stripped down i noticed they were different. Mine in the car is pretty much square but the one UniPart gave me is rectangualr
Can only assume they have given me a non-a/c one ?

So i found a little bit of rust, bored, i decided to remove it

Always wanted to get rid of the bit on my scuttle, so this time i did

I just need to sand it down with wet and dry and give it a little lacquer

Oh and gave the scuttle a touch up whilst it was off

Uncle is bringing piston ring clamp tomorrow, so should be making progress there Sunday, swapping the pollen filter tomorrow and going to Vaux to pick up my main bearing cap bolts and my big end bearing cap bolts then its all rebuilding from there on in

Was waiting on the clamp turning up, and it did. But sun was shining and i figured id sort another issue

Horrible rust
And i wanted to put my new plate on but needed rid of the two holes at the back of my plate in order for it to sit flat.

Masked her up

Rubbed it all down

Bashed a bit of filler on it to even out the pitted bits and set to painting it up

Jobs a gooden Going to let it harden off and dry properly, then i need to see about lacquering it up.

Swapped my pollen filter over between painting too.
New vs. what could be 10 years old

Back on to fixing up that engine tomorrow

Todays little update, feel as though ive got somewhere today

Todays challenge was main bearing caps and pistons back in.

Got cap covers in

Got 3 in all together

Knackered one of my rings up when getting the first one in So that stopped progress slightly.

Bought these for my wire to run through my bay

And set up my sandwich plate ready to wire in

Got my boot out too So tempted to spray it up
