if you want a redtop do it. just rebuild it if worried about it being reliable.

Or sell your engine and buy the c16xe in classifieds!!

As I said earlier;

Inlet manifold
4-2-1
Decat system
Panel filter
Cams
Management

And you won't be far off 150bhp. But I still stick with the idea of getting more power, more torque, better economy, and if a good one's bought, just as reliable motoring.

C16XE

Rebuild it
Mantzel upper and lower inlet
Lexmaul 4-2-1 Fannymold
Panel Filter
Full exhaust system binning CAT.
Custom "Mantzel" Superchip.

161bhp @ 7519rpm, 117lb ft torque.

A car heavier than a 2.0 corsa (it has fancy crap inside) that can stick on a 2.0 16v corsas ass....

Awaits the haters

I wouldn't argue that it would keep with one, I would however argue that a redtop will be so much cheaper than it would cost for that

i had the same problem as you bigbaz few years ago and i went redtop route, i by no way think its the best/quickest/cheapest route as i spent a fair bit on silicone hoses and mtech short shift etc etc etc which all adds up!!! but i have to say i love this engine to bits and i own a mk4 astra gsi too.... gsi engine has nowhere near the rawness of the xe i love it.........

yes i have replaced few sensors and i had couple of teething problems but i had just as many problems with all the smallblock engines far newer than the xe was so............

No they are not the best engine in the world but i took one drive of mine and became a true fan of this legendary engine and just the way it delivers its power and i would not change my mind if i was to do it over again.... everytime i drive it i still have a small grin so what does that say....... 5 odd years on

words are easy..... we all say civic type r's are crap but really we all mean we hate the chavvy stigma attachment to them which has no reflection on the car itself......

xe's claim to have handling issues and ive had tussles with all my mates in mine from pug gti's to civic type r's to 106 rallye to rs2000 escorts etc etc and nobody has really shined out of any of us and pulled away down country lanes, well not what i would call pulling away........

so either im ok at driving or my corsa has OK handling...or its a slight myth as it will have some affect
