So now people are going to complain that they liked it better before?
Microsoft did a fuck up with their marketing and communication. I think this will haunt them for a good long time, one way or the other.

It was better before, it was the future. As far as I could see it was only paupers moaning who rely on used games and live in a cave with no internet, or people fabricating one off scenarios like working away and taking their xbox. Who the fuck takes their xbox in their suitcase? Oh, and too many buttons, can't forget that one

The purpose might have been the future, the execution was certainly medieval.
I don't think there's anything revolutionary about offering freedom at the cost of freedom.
Freedom to install your games and run them without disc at the cost of the freedom to trade them.
Freedom to share digital games at the cost of the freedom to game while offline.
The basic ideas were good, but the level of restriction put in place to support them was idiotic and backwards.
You might think trading in used games is for paupers, but having just spent £40 on the latest 10/10 wonder and finding it a polished turd, I'm certainly happy that eBay offers me a way to see some of my money back.

I believe the X1 would have still sold plenty of consoles if they had the balls like other big manufacturers (ie - Apple) to, as it were, hang the customers out to dry with the changes. But i guess it was always inevitable that Microsoft would back-track on the plans with the media backlash.
Tbh, this whole saga reeks of Microsoft getting caught with their pants down by reading too much into the 6 month old rumours that Sony were planning to do something similar with regards to digital game copies and always-on internet connections and deciding to follow suit.
And it wouldn't surprise me if Sony did have those plans in place but decided to pull it all when they saw the backlash Microsoft got over them.

^^ Definitely. Sony sat back, watched the uproar, then thought "fuck that then".

from that article;
'On the other side of the coin, I personally didn’t care too much about used game policies and online check-ins, because I’ll most likely only buy 2 or 3 used games in the entire 7 year console life, and my internet very rarely goes out'
so basically, your opinion is irrelevant.

Gotta agree with Brett, and that article tbh, i don't like Microsoft. But they were looking at the long run, they definitely released the information in a ridiculous manner though. Which has backfired a lot and forced them to change their ideas

I usually just do a rescan myself mate and add new channels to my own favourites I've done. CBA with updating new lists and it reorganising everything for the sake of a channel or two. Mrs was pleased that More4 is now HD last night when I did it Had to since Sky Disney, Dave HD, Sky Select and a few others had just stopped working, but all sorted now

Wow, that's is some serious bullshit.
Lots of claims, nothing to back them up. At all.
"The venomous backlash has actually cost the games industry a few years in advancing forward."
What the fuck? How so? If anything, Microsoft blocking out indie developers from publishing to their console has had more impact on the future of the gaming industry than the console lacking the ability to play installed games without the disc in the tray.
Way to blow things out of proportion.

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just throwing interesting artcles on the topic into the mix when they pop up. Keeps Balling busy
I just hope they can still integrate the new features and keep the internet whiners happy at the same time. Wouldn't want ebay to miss out on their cut on used games would we
