I never had problem insuring my old cup – wasn't noticeably expenses. Things may have changed though. I'm only paying £275 fully comp on my BMW and I didn't imagine it could be much more. Robin, what exquisite taste in cars you have.

If you only plan on keeping it a few months, the Evo is the perfect choice.

It seems to be the road most Evo owners go down. More previous owners than miles.

Well you've had an MX5, Mk1 Golf GTI, 328i Sport, soon a Cup – all cars I've owned, and my taste is sublime.

This is at/over the length of thread you need that the outcome ends up being really boring.

depends what you mean by handling, I would say an evo handles pretty damn well in terms of grip and going around corners well, thats my perspective of handling anyway.

I guess driving experience and being rewarded is slightly different though

I have driven neither, but the most obvious thing will be a saloon car with a turbo and 4x4 vs a small mid engined naturally aspirated dedicated sports car. That's why it is highly regarded as one of the best drivers cars out there.

Handling is how a car feels and reacts/drives. That includes grip, responsiveness, steering feel/weight/speed, feedback, roll, turn in, weight distribution, pretty much everything.

It is generally considered that mid engined rwd is the "best" combination.

I'm pretty sure the Evo will have more mechanical grip, but that doesn't always equate to excitement and involvement. That's not to say an Evo is bad. But it's a different kind of car and not really comparable to one designed for the best driver involvement.

Is it best to say its a matter of preference?

Just to be clear id have the poor mans 911 over the evo any day. In fact i don't think i will ever want another evo. But to say that it cant compete with a cayman is balls... In a race environment, i bet a standard mr fq320 would be faster..

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Top_Gear_test_track_Power_Lap_Times

In fact - top gear to the rescue - snigger

Fq400 is leaps and bounds ahead too, so jays 400bhp evo would obliterate one...

Buy a 986 boxster, very few had traction control, arguably the most raw driving experience, sounds better than some 911's, better handling, and you'd have loads spare to buy something decent and comfy for the daily.
