In 1970 they were using dirty carbs and less precise engineering methods. In 2006 GM still struggle to make a 6.1Ltr V8 put out more than 450bhp.

Yes, in 2006 GM do struggle WITH A 60 YEAR OLD DESIGN.

dont struggle at all-they are restricted due to euro4 compliancy-hence why the z13dt is restricted to fuck. tell the car it lives in turkey-fuelling is upped, boost is upped and egr is disabled.

the new 2.0L TFSI engine from VAG runs 11.5:1 compression ratio.

that's a 2 litre PETROL turbo, with High compression....

Even still. A friend has a 1.4 K-Series engine, turbo'd at 21psi (1.5bar) running about 9:1 and it pushes 187bhp (87% power increase). This is on Megasquirt, finely tuned and intercooled.

I'm still doubting a 1.2 with 63% less boost can produce just under 30bhp less, basing the fact it can produce 130% extra power with only 0.6 bar.

Yes, I saw FSI. We're talking almost diesel technology here FFS. FSI is also NOT without it's issues. VW are trying to cover up a warehouse full of melted engines.

Bizarre.

Honda's D16 and B16 engines, with a bolt on turbo kit, and standard compression, can GAIN 75 - 100bhp...

must be lies.

In the last hour or so, I've probably pushed the biggest debate against this particular engine pushing this power. As I said, I don't doubt the 1.2 can produce this. I've seen 1.0 Charades produce 300bhp, albeit not for very long. The fact is, the OP suggests that the 1.2 engine is producing a reliable 158bhp, on standard internals with 0.6bar. It's only recently came to light that the engine *may not* be standard, and that it *may not* be only running 0.6 bar of boost.

who is to say though that the 1.2 16v internals are not strong enough though?

Because the 1.2 doesn't have a lary VTEC setup, is 400cc short and without resorting to prejudice, isn't half as good as a Honda unit.

If you had any idea of the costs involved in designing an engine so it's reliable for it's given output, you'd know Vauxhall wouldn't have put the finance into making it capable of 130% extra power without upgrade.
