Yeah he did say he used some heat on them but they wouldn't budge and he didn't want to risk fucking them right up. As said, seems to be very common on BMW's for some reason.
I've gone ahead and ordered the Lemforder ones. When I get them i'll grease the threads up as a preventative measure.

Got the track rods today. Was cheaper to buy from carparts4less and get them delivered to a local shop, than it was to click and collect from eurocarparts.
Will be getting them on at the weekend as it needs an alignment badly

Got the rods and track rod ends fitted today. Was an easier job that I thought. Took just over an hour to do both sides.
They were well seized up and there was no way to adjust them, so chucked some grease on these ones to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Alignment is currently way out and it was difficult just to drive home, so getting that sorted tomorrow.
Yes I know, very dirty underneath. I plan on degreasing it all next weekend if the weathers ok.

Yeah measured them up, 470 one side, 465 the other. Adjusted the new ones to suit but it was still out. Couldn't be bothered adjusting them on the car so decided to leave it for the professionals

Alignment sorted.
Not so funny story, driving home and heard a loud knocking noise over bumps. Thought i had something in the boot so pulled over to check and it was empty. Carried on driving and it got worse. Ended up hitting a small bump in the road at 70mph and the steering was thrown right out and had lights flaahing on the dash.
Took it back and they re-checked everything and apparently a rear arm hadn't been fully tightened. Feels and drives great now, but yeah, not impressed! Though 3 checks and adjustments and he only charged £40, so all in all, worth it
Proper hunter alignment machine used also.
Anyway, got back home, pulled the handbrake up and SNAP! Ffs, cable had obviously stretched too much and is gone. Currently have no handbrake!

Had it 3 and a half years mate, nothing broke at the start so I can only assume I drive it too hard
Spoke to the BMW specialist place who did my servicing and they're gonna take a look on Thursday. Hoping it isn't too expensive. The actual handbrake cables needed only cost £20 for both. It's the labour i'm worried about

Cars currently in the garage getting the handbrake looked at. Not sure how much longer I can go without one. Bound to forget I left it in gear one of these days!
Hopefully not too big a repair/bill but I've just treated myself to a mcdonalds breakfast so feeling good right about now
Update: they got it up on the ramps and said they're fairly sure the cable's gone but can't get access to it as there are heatshields and the exhaust in the way. Needs to go in for a day or 2 so they can remove and replace it. Also the gasket between the block and oil filter housing has perished so he'll replace that aswell. And lastly, a pulley or tensioner on the drive belt is squealing and needs replacing so i'll get him to do that aswell.
Lovely stuff  it done well for 40,000 miles though Just a shame after it ticked over 100k things started going wrong.
My mate in work has a Toyota on 180,000 miles and it's been good as gold. Lucky sod!

true. As much as this car annoys me, I love driving it and still think it looks great. If anything, the natural progression would be f type or Aston v8 vantage but theres no chance of ether so i'll have to make do with the Z4
Can't wait for the roof to get done. Just over a week left! My bank balance is not going to look healthy after all this.

Roof will look class, well it will when you sort the wheels.
I have thought about the f type also as the next step (obviously not for me) but it would be what I'd go for if I could.
Luckily jags don't hold great money so they should be affordable soon

Had a look at the handbrake cable problems this weekend. A spring had come loose below the gaitor, so re-attached that, but still no tension on it whatsoever.
Also had a look at a squaling noise coming from the belt area. Managed to find the culprit, a pulley sitting bythe alternator. Sprayed it with wd40 and the noise has stopped, but as it's only £30 for a new one I thought i'd replace it anyway.
Also bought a gasket for the oil filter housing to cure the oil leak. Apparently a very common problem on these engines so Gav, i'd check yours.
Lastly, installed some philips crystal vision bulbs at the weekend. Much better than the supposed white (yellow) vision I uad before. No pics yet.

Got papped by my mate on the way home from work hardtop looks great i think. Just a shame it's a 2 man job to remove.

BMW did a garage roof mount 'crane system' to lift the hard-tops, my mate has got one for his M3, it makes it a doddle..

Yeah but they're quite expensive and i'd rather save myself a few hundred quid and ask the missus to help me lift it off it takes a couple of minutes max to install or remove so it's not worth the outlay really.
