Main reason: To annoy people like you
I think you are a little bit confused about how cars work
The engine is the part of the car that produces power, this power in turn is what makes the car move. Its made up of many components that all work in harmony to feed the engine with fuel & air, ignite it, move pistons, turn gears, turn driveshafts & finally move the wheels.
The more power your engine produces means the faster the car moves. Also if it weighs less you get a much better power to weight ratio which also makes you faster as technically there is less of the car than usual.
So just to clarify, the engine makes a car fast.
A badge that contains of a red letter "R" does not make your car fast.
Its all about what is powering the wheels & how much the car weighs.
This may come as a big suprise to you but not everyone buys a car just to say "I have a ..........."
My car has power, and mods to make it safer/handle better
I own a car like this because I enjoy driving. It might not be perfect, but its fun.
People who own cars such as CTR's spend nearly 20K & think that they are the best cars out. Why? Because it cost 20K.
No one really expects a Corsa to be fast. More to the point, people who spend 20K on a Civic dont expect a Corsa to be fast.
So maybe the question should be "Why would you spend that kind of money on a Civic?"
God knows.....
^ This should be topped I think
Bravo LMCAO - Matthew, I'm almost sure I love you.
My cousin used to drive one and he's not a tosser, so that's another one to add to the list of non-tosser based Civic Type R drivers.
I drove a black 2002 model a few weeks back and was dissapoited. Sounded nice, but was all noise and no go.
Surprisingly tinny, rattly and poorly finished for a Honda I thought too.

It doesnt mean they are good/fun to drive on a normal stretch of road.
indeed, as is it not the most easier accesable levle playing field for performance cars to be tested
Tell me about it

Sorry, just had to correct you here about the LSD:
There are a few JDM spec CTR's in the country one being supercharged. The JDM cars have the LSD, UK cars do not. It as offered as an option in some Euro countries but was NEVER standard fitment on UK cars. The original press cars were JDM spec hence they had them fitted. It is standard fitment on the DC5 integra but again that is a Japan only car.

Yeah thats right, the UK CTR is very much a watered down version much to the annoyance of UK owners so no LSD, Recaros, less power, longer gear ratios etc..

Thats not the point i'm making at all, so a pretty pointless comment on your part?
Some of us can drive Hondas properly and some people can't, same with any car i would presume.

the less power bit is mainly down to the fuel and the ignition timing tho isnt it?

There are internal differences aswell as the fuel such as different cam shaft profile and higher compression coupled with the higher grade fuel means the JDM CTR pushes out 212hp (215Ps)
