Messi's lack of height and physique has not hampered his game 1 single bit.

I would agree though that as an athlete Ronaldo is streaks ahead. He plays football though, not Athletics.

When did their results start to take a turn for the worse?

Are you seeing a pattern emerge here?

They have never had a Plan B. Even when Pep was there they still had no answer if a team set up the right way against them. It was just a lot less common that teams would find out how to beat them then

And surely Messi would have shown the same greatness at International level?

The most commonly used argument against Messi is a complete and utter myth. He has done more for Argentina then Ronaldo has for Portugal.

And Ronaldo has proved himself in the best league in the world. Messi hasn't and won't

Messi won't leave his comfort zone where he knows he's effective.

He won't leave Arsenal's parent club you mean, that their 2 best players have left for to become bit-part players at Barcelona.

La Liga is not even close to the best league in the world.

La Liga, Copa Del Ray & Spanish Super Cup - In the last ten years how many teams other than RM or Barca have won them?

Plus Ronaldo went from scoring a lot in the PL due to scoring all the time in La Liga. It's because the opposition is wank. There's no way he stepped up that much when he moved there. No shock the goal scoring records get broken in La Liga.
