Drive - 6/10

Beautifully filmed and Ryan Goslings performance is amazing.
Ironically enough though, the story is with complete lack of drive and I never feel engaged in the film and have zero sympathy for any of the characters.

Should've been so much better.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a pretty serious crash during the filming of that apparently. Did most of the stunts himself and ended up flying through the rear window of a taxi and needed around 30-40 stitches in his arm.

Trailers make it look pretty good, shame to hear it's not all that.
its not specifically a bad film just seems to focus more on push bike riders weaving in and out of traffic than the story. The pace of the film is quick enough to keep it interesting but it's just average. I thought the story/trailer made it sound a lot better than it was. Hollywood.

It's certainly entertaining, but it's cheesy and shallow. 7/10 at a stretch, for me.
Visuals are fantastic, though.

As for the sequel, don't hold your breath.

Isn't this the 'Recent trailers I've seen and based my opinion and rating on' thread? Must have taken a wrong turn after General Chat. My bad...

real steel was a great film imo.

this is a review thread, based on opinions. obviously, some people are going to rate films different to others.

no need to kick up a stink over it.

The only thing I didn't like about Real Steel was the Texan guy that I wanted to punch every time he was on the screen.

The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo (2011) - 8/10

Good, but not as good as the original. Something in the middle seemed to be missing but I can not quite place it. Stayed fairly true to the original apart from the conclusion of the investigation.

I may have a thing for anorexic rock chicks now though

Sherlock Holmes: a Game of Shadows - 9/10

I'm a really big fan of this franchise and it's really verging on perfection. A few too silly bits hold it back.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (extended) - 10/10

This really is a remarkably good film. It takes it's time when it's needed, but never feels slow.
If anything bad should be said, the visuals do start to feel a bit dated and Elijah's performance is a bit over the top at times. None of it ruins the experience, though.

The only criticism I ever had was that I thought the Shire looked too colourful to the point where is looked like cheap VE. Other than that, spot on for me.

To be honest, I have to be very anal to find much wrong with this film. It's the sort of film I'd love to hate, like I do Avatar, but it's just too darned good.
