Cheers Mark will deffo get a few photos sorted, also have to pop out for a couple of beers sometime mate.
yeah, dont think it needs to go any lower, like you say i think it site about right looks lowered but still practical.

Got quite a few photos of the wheel refurb so far, spent a lot of time on them already the past couple of weeks so they are looking a little bit fresher now.
First off was to clean & polish the existing BBS rim bolts.. all 120 of them & what a ballache that was.

wheels split
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/7303/rm_basket__dish.jpg

Bolts
The bolts were all covered in dirt, grime, rust & needed a fair bit of work to get them back to their former glory. I could have just bought a new set as they do, gold, chrome, stainless steel etc. but i wanted to keep with the OEM look and re-use the originals.

this is what i had to contend with

As you can see they dont look that great tbh lol the guy i bought the wheels off said he can get them re-chromed for £100!! swiftly decided against that and bought myself some coke for 40p - Tools needed: bolts, coke/pepsi & a tub to put them in.

I left these to soak for 48 hours changing the coke after the'd been in for 24 or so. I drained this off and began drying and wiping the bolts clean Very surprised with how much of the dirt lifted off using a sugary drink lol

Not good enough tho, i wanted some shine so set about using a dremel with a buffing/polishing pad and some G3 compound topped up with Meguires nxt metal polish then rinsed and washed off with a toothbrush to clean in all the ridges.
Done not 100% but they have scrubbed up well, good enough to re-use i think

so far i think im sticking with 6.5j for a bit more practicality. I had a look at getting a couple of 1" outers to make them 7j but it looked like i'd run into a few more problems with the arch & lowering

Quick pic to show you the standard centers & the ones i shall be using. I've just put them together but they aren't finished yet, still dirty and still need to sort a colour.

I have also spent a lot of time working on the outers, 2 are finished so will sort the photo's out and post up the progress soon

More Refurb progress

Outer Rims

As i am re-using the original 0.5 " outer rim they need a fair bit of work to get them looking a bit neater. Years of use has taken its toll and pitted the aluminum the worst areas are around the valve, where the old wheel weights used to sit & areas where the lacquer has chipped.

Pitting/corrosion

curb marks

Rim before

I started off by washing the rim in warm soapy water and scrubbed off all the old dirt/grime. Next is to set up for stripping off the old lacquer, i used good ol nitromoors for this .. harsh lol i recommend you use gloves as it can be quite painful stuff

next was to wash dry and start sanding, to sort out the pitting/curb marks i had to start off with 120 grit paper then onto 240 & as you can see it started to take the marks out.

pitted area:

Next was to work through the grades 120 - 240 - 400 - 600 - 800 wet - 1000 wet - 1200 wet - 1500 wet. The aim here was to make sure you sand out the marks left by the previous grade of paper till you end up with something like this

much better, after working round the rim with G3 i applied Meguires all metal polish and buffed it off with a microfibre cloth, now i feel like im getting somewhere

Next step, work on the baskets

baskets are now cleaned, scotched and ready for a lick of paint .. not 100% decided on a colour yet i do have a couple of ideas but im unsure what would work best, do i go white, silver, grey dark like my current ones..pink shall have to do a few testers and see how they come out.

Nice Work!

Ild personally keep it simple and have them silver. but grey colour *same as bumper tops* would look cool too.

Cheers Luke, yep i want to keep the wheels fairly oem but would be nice if they were flashy at the same time. Im currently thinking either re do them in the standard silver or paint the baskets smoke grey to match the car, could look good with a bit of contrast between the spokes/lip

Spray the baskets Smoke Grey to match the car then polish the face of the spokes, so only the inside edges are painted then laquer the lot!

Making good progress on those so far Danny
