I invested in tracker funds (not quite as exciting but less effort) and it's up 7% in about 6 weeks. Given that most ISAs give less than 3% over one year, I would say that's pretty good.

Anyone ever invested in vintage wine?
My dad has been considering it. Apparently the returns are usually over 12% and the profits are tax free.

Was a thing about wine traders on tv the other day. Was a few of them all scamming people and never buying the wine.

They are just funds that track well known indexes like the FTSE.
Mine are tracking the FTSE 250 and BlackRock Property Equities. Plus it's all wrapped in an investment ISA so it's tax free.

That was the first thing that popped into my head to be honest. Sounds like a grifters scheme.

Checked again today. Up 8.3% in just over 6 weeks. It will probably level out a bit soon, although if it goes up 8.3% every 6 weeks I'll be laughing

I cashed out a while back.
Not been into it since, don't have time in new job to sit browsing.
Tempted to have another dabble now. Think there was a wee bit left (c£30) in but not enough to do anything with I don't think.

What's that as a percentage of your account value?
I've lost about 2% in the last couple of days through general FTSE losses.

Yeh I always fill my cash ISA first.
It's with Hargreaves Lansdown ( http://www.hl.co.uk/ ). I think they are generally regarded as the best on the market. They get good discounts from the various fund managers. The costs for shares are about average. For shares it's £12 per trade + stamp duty.

Just got my statement though which is about a week short of being exactly 6 months since the last one.
From 2nd of Nov 2012 to the 22nd April 2013. My total investment has grown by £8701.97.
From the beginning, the largest investment growth has been "European Smaller Companies: Threadneedle European Smaller Companies 1 (Acc).
From April 2008 it has grown by 148.46%.
The second largest growth has been "Asia Pacific ex Japan: First State Asia Pacific (Acc)".
From May 2008 it has grown by 64.80%.
The third largest growth has been "Global Emerging Markets: AXA Framlington Emerging Markets R (Acc).
From April 2008 it has grown by 48.28%
Hopefully this will make some sense to you guys and you can try and make some money out of it

I'd take the money now, see what they say.
Then reinvest half of the profit

Take what? The whole amount, or just this 6 months profit?

Basing investments on prior results isn't a good strategy.
I saw an example where one year a fund made over 100% profit, then the next year it lost 20%.

Yeah, I realise it isn't fool proof, but since they've risen solidly for the past 5 years I figured it could be worth a punt.
On the other hand they've just purchased 15794.256 shares in "Absolute Return: Standard Life Global Abs Ret Strategy R Acc.
So maybe they're the future growers.

No, you're confused. The wine thing was never really looked in to. Too much uncertainty. This is my portfolio with Avalon.

I'm not taking any money out. It's all staying put.
Wouldn't mind a new car though...
