G-Wagen's are just as, if not more capable than the defender offroad.
Was watching some review of a new G-Wagen and new RR. They were equally as capable, the RR using more electronics to do it, the G just mechanical brute force.
Anyway, the point of it being, they said the new RR on road tyres is better offroad than a defender on mud tyres.

Electronics probably makes it better in terms of auto descent. But yeah if your trying to get up a muddy slope and your diff locked I can't see electronics being any use whatsoever.
It's obviously going to be better at heating your seats etc

Witchcraft. Honestly the Range Rovers are phenomenal things off road. We went on one of those LR run experience days and, amongst other stuff, it cruised straight up a muddy/grassy slope I'd have struggled to walk up, got to the top and cruised back down. Obviously a Defender could have done it too but the driver would have to know what they were doing, any moron could have got the RR up and down it.
They also did a good test on a wet sloped field. On normal road setting you floored it and tried to keep a circle, but obviously you were sliding wider and wider. Changed the setting one turn on the central knob thing, went again and it maintained a perfect circle.
Clearly these things are set up by LR to show off the vehicles but it was still mighty impressive.

That doesn't really matter, people who had driven both off road said they were.
Wasn't hill descent either, it was off-roading in general.

What's the score with diff locks on Defenders? I know the centre locks but what about front and rear? If' they're open then the electronic diffs on the Range will help a lot. With only a centre diff lock you can get stuck by losing traction on 2 wheels, the Range would need to lose traction on all 4 wheels for it to be completely stuck.

For Joe Bloggs in the street, a RR with all the gizmos probably will be "better" (read easier) off road. For someone with off road experience an equipped Defender will be far more capable. IMO.

I've done a couple of Land Rover Experience days and if it means anything the instructors said the Defenders weren't as good off road as the Range Rovers and Discoverys

Been looking into the whole getting a 4x4 as i think i will get one, probably not for this winter though.
Probably going to get a discovery or a cherokee, i do like the defenders but seem a bit rustic and you get a bit more for your money with a disco. Defender is much cooler though.

See alot of boys using jimnys for offroading. Cant help but think the 1.3 engine would take all the fun out of it. Be quicker winching yourself everywhere
