I heard they were so desperate to get rid of his full wage that they were willing to pay half his wages whilst on loan and Stoke the other!

Stoke have pulled out anyway
quote:
Stoke City have revealed they have ended their interest in signing goalkeeper David James from Portsmouth.
Boss Tony Pulis was thought to be close to wrapping up a deal to take James, 39, on loan at the Britannia Stadium.
But BBC Radio Stoke understands that the Potters were not prepared to pay the proportion of James's salary that Portsmouth wanted from them.
James wants to prove his form and fitness to England coach Fabio Capello ahead of the World Cup this summer.
He has struggled for regular first-team football this season after picking up a calf injury but is now fit to play.

I'm glad about this, Sorensen any day over James
The Lads FULLER Goals
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie claimed they were surprised by the terms of the deal Stoke were offering.
He told BBC Radio Solent: "Stoke hadn't even offered his wages and hadn't offered a deal to the end of the contract.
"I've never heard of a Premier League side not wanting to cover another Premier League player's wages, never ever."

Apparently weve offered Babel + £3m for Turan, which would be a great deal if we can get it.
Babel isnt in the squad this weekend so could be something to this.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is heading towards the exit door at Anfield after becoming fed up with their poor form. Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Manchester City wait with their cheque books at the ready.

Jones would be decent back up for torres, he's strong and is half decent, better than voronin
Hopefully babel will be shipped out now, all that shit he was writing on twitter it would be immense if we could get arda turan for babel + £3m but doubt that VERY much!

Why would they let him out on loan?

Saw that on the BBC. Looks quite possible as he's apparently been training with the squad.
Interesting that the mirror think he's being brought in as a striker instead of Beckford seen as he last played for us as a left back

I don't know, it's probably rubbish but I was commenting on the fact he'd be a decent back up striker, well, when compared to voronin, and a decent other option to ngog.

He'd be a great option, just a bit confused as to why they would loan him to us - unless we're paying some ridiculous loan fee for 6 months.

Didnt Bruce make a ludicrous comment that he'd want £20m for him or something?! Can't see him shipping him out on loan. They aren't exactly banging them in right now either.

Loads of papers carrying this today, even the echo has it like its a done deal and they tend not to say anything like that unless its fairly certain.

Not leaving during January apparently. Not sure why Sunderland would do it either tbh. Random one.

He isn't a striker.
If he does come back with a full contract, then we just need shearer to come back heading in solano's crosses

It sounds like something was discussed and they didn't want babel/babel didn't want to go to them. Jones sounds unsettled as sunderland tried to buy that kevin kuranyi (SP), some papers even say he's having a medical this week I don't buy into that at all, I think babel pooped the party
