Mine was the same mate. when you put the belt on just pull the left pulley round anti clockwise into place and once its tensioned up it will hold it in the correct place

doesnt that mean that one side is half way through a cycle and therefore not hitting the lifters at the correct time?

Yes mate, between the first two cam caps on the cam is some flats for a spanner, this
is so you can move the cam into place and then fit a cam locker! this goes between the
two pullies, it helps to have both hands free when fitting a belt

Sorry you've kinda confused me here, by holding the cam with the spanner what does this achieve as the cam will still be in the wrong place? Also, so if I do as shaun says and hold it over while putting the belt on making it TDC doesn't this mean that the cams won't be pushing the valves down at the correct time for the other pistons?

Sorry if it's a stupid question

Not to worry!! when you placed the cam pully on, it only goes in one position!!
Hold the cam in position with a spanner!! making sure the marks are horizontal to each
other, then place on the cam belt just make sure all the timing mark`s correct,
tension belt, then turn over by hand.

but yes it is normal for the one cam to 'jump' out like this when taking the cambelt off and as said above use a spanner on the nut on the cam shaft to turn it to its position, i THINK aswell if your carefull it should sit in the line'd up position just on the spring tension but be-carefull when you put the belt on as it can spring back to its current position, it is easier to have two people, one to put belt on and one to hold the camshaft but it is possible to do it on your own... obviously.

Very impressed with this! Looks stupidly clean definitely change the inlet before you put it in the car, so much easier to do with it out of the car

Leave the cam sensor off mate, until you`ve got the belt on and the bottom half of the front cover!!
it will then be clear were the cable sits Its a pitty you don`t live closer mate, rebuilt loads of
these!!(vauxhall technician 1989 to 1996) with tensioner, water pump and belt problems.

ace work on this mate. wish mine wasnt a daily and id do the same. looks quite new now
and yes as said, fit the inlet box before you fit it. its that black pipe at the back thats a bitch to get out when the engines in.
also you'll need to shift the two connectors of the loom that go into the throttle body...
apart from that its pretty easy to fit and you'll not regret fitting it

where do you shift the two connectors to? does the throttle body end up on the cam belt side of the engine then?
