Just got a ticket for day 1 at Old Trafford

Thoughts on who should replace Pietersen if he's ruled out? James Taylor seems to be favourite at the moment, he's the one Gooch mentioned when interviewed about it.

Bit of a random pick but I'd like to see Luke Wright given a shot. He's shitting runs for Sussex in the CC this season and he can throw down a few overs to give the bowlers a break.

I like Luke Wright, and would definitely prefer him to Patel, even with the spinning track at OT.

But I'm sure it'll be James Taylor. And tbf, when better to give him another chance than against a very poor Australia side who we'd probably best with 10 men if needed. He did nothing wrong when he played against SA, so I'm sure he'll be fine in this test.

Also its a good thing for little people around the world as I think he's about my height!

Pattinson out for the Aussies. They should bring back Mitchell Johnson. Always good for a laugh

That'd be great, I'd love to be part of the Johnson song! I assume Starc will come back in, although that will just create more rough for Swann to work with.

Hello from Old Trafford! Aussies going pretty well here, looks a good track to bat on though. We're behind a group of Fanatics who are being pretty quickly silenced when they decide to have a chirp. Consensus seems to be Khawaja was unlucky not to get that overturned, looks big turn for Swann on Day 1.

Very strange on that Smith appeal, massive noise as it went past the bat, bug no hot spot, no deviation, even snicko had the noise after it went past. But nowhere the noise could of come from. Weird.

They've played well, obviously the pitch has helped them, but we've not bowled badly. Sad thing is they've not even presented any chances. They've just played well.for.the first time in months.

Shame Watson got out (for my top scorer bet)

Australia have really turned up today!

Batted brilliantly and bowled with great discipline, grabbing a couple of wickets

What the hell was Bresnan doing? I know he's a bit of a big numb bugger but surely he can fell the ball hitting his leg? That's before we consider what he was doing trying to pull as a night watchman

Time for Captain Cook to stand up, Lyon has ripped a few but that should die down as the ball softens, Harris looks to be struggling too.

Might be getting some play with some luck. Australia have unsurprisingly declared, hope it stays dry, could be a good day!

I'm in Manchester now, it's just about stopped but I'd be very surprised if it stayed that way for long, low grey cloud everywhere

Shame really, could've been a really good ending to the test.

Crikey, didn't expect this when I was driving in this morning. Cleared up a lot around 10:30-11 but it has got noticeably darker again now, pretty sure there'll be some more rain before the end of play.

As someone said though, Australia didn't lose the Ashes because of a days rain, they lost them for not playing well enough over the last month.
