In other, less important news
West Ham have bid for Ross McCormack, hope we sign him so he can get injured in training and sit out the rest of the season on ridiculous wages

Good player, he's really kicked on in the past couple seasons. Always looks good on the League programme after MOTD at the weekend.

Anything that dents Leeds survival hopes is good in my book. Get him signed.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/24/jose-mourinho-juan-mata-arsene-wenger?CMP=twt_gu
‘Wenger complaining is normal because he always does,’
‘But when he says “this is not fair”, what I think is not fair is that he always has the best day to play, always.’
‘So normally he should be very happy Chelsea sold a player like Juan Mata, but I think this is a bit of his nature and we have to accept the way he is.'

Unfortunately it looks like united have finally signed up to the buying their way to success mentality, but what else can they do, although throwing cash around won't guarantee then success, if they do nothing they are guaranteed to fail

I'm not saying they have never spent money, but nothing in the same league that has been spent by other top clubs in recent years. I think city is something ridiculous like almost a billion on players alone in the last 5 seasons.
Fergie was always proud of the fact united tried to nurture talent through their academies and youth system.
That seems to have dried up now though, it was evident even under fergie, he bodged it for a bit by bringing Scholes back.

So yeah point proven really, even if my exact figures are off, city have spent twice as much, Chelsea nearly a billion, Liverpool haven't been a top club in recent times yet have still spent more, and arsenal id agree are another club that don't like to throw money around.
Real Madrid have twice spent around 80m on single players, that's over twice as much as Manchester uniteds record signing, which happens to be mata now.
