Aww am gutted for you I can see both sides Dan but I agree just give it a try £20 is nothing then it's ended up a cheap fix hasn't it

Update : 25.05.2012

Right finally got some progress done after days of me and my dad not having any time. :/

As you all know i had the big problem with the engine with the metal flakes in the oil. So first off dropped sump,took shells off and decided to order some new ones as the crank was still ok. Gave the crank a light rub down with some emry cloth and then fitted my new shells after finally ordering wrong ones even though i measured them.

Bought some new magnetec Castrol oil hopefully to help with things and my new 20.3 bearings.



Got sump and pick up pipe blown out with air gun and cleaned



Fitted a new o ring gasket as other was perished



And how we got on







And done and everything fitted again.

Before we started it we unplugged the coil lead and started it to get the oil going round the engine and then connected it back up and started it. Left it 15 mins and still was tapping badly from the top end. No noise coming from bottom end so that's sorted and no engine coming out. What a relief.

So then took her for a biggish drive to see if anything happened and tbh it did quieten down after the drive but it's still there. Deffo a top end tap now and me dad reckons it's still not getting enough pressure to get to the top end. Also when the cars idling once the oil is warm the oil light comes on then goes off once being drove.

Going to drive the car a week and see if the tapping goes 'cos apparently it can take a while but if i have no luck i'm going to order a new oil pump and some new lifters.

Should be at PVS so everyone stop worrying just might have to deal with the loud tapping on the way there.

Glad to hear its back up and running Dan! Chuffed for you mate. Fingers crossed it doesnt give you anymore bother now

Lifters does sound like the cause of the tapping. Mine used to tap quite badly until I changed them. Autovaux can get you genuine INA ones for a great price if you do decent to change them bud

I might have to ring autovaux and see how much they charge. A place near me does them for £70 for all 16 and the pump for £60. I'll have to shop round.

It will be at PVS but i need to get MOT booked.
