when i say scuffle, i mean the security guard tried to grab me mate and he kicked off, went on bout how he couldn't touch us or anything, and how there's notrespassing or boundary signs etc
iv just been on a bike ride past there tonight, was going to have a look about again but decided i'll bring the car up instead and look about again, so iv not really got past the 1st couple of buildings yet

Was the disused pontins used for a TV programme a few years ago? Something to do with some sort of disaster and everything ended with a few people left in random places and lots of people were found living there.

lol at this thread!! there are various reasons for the closure of these old asylums. the most common is money. old asylums, we're talking maybe 30/40 years ago will have been jam packed full of patients. modern neuroleptic/anti-depressant drugs and new treatments combined with a change in attitiudes have mean't that there simply aren't the numbers to justify such large structures. there is no demand. the hospital i work in was the largest in glasgow in it's heyday - well over 40 wards (we're talking 40-60 bed units) - now it has 8 wards of 25 beds (going down to 20). there are also regulatory bodies such as shas and the mental welfare commission who deem wards fit or not. more likely than not these old buildings have been deemed unfit. there is no big secret as to what went on in psychiatric hospitals in past days. the security are there to stop you coming in, falling through the (most likely) unsafe floor, and your parents suing the nhs for not stopping people coming in.

was a mental hospital about 5minute walk from where i used to live, just up the alley way behind my house. Me and my dad used to go nosing about the place but only once went inside the a building. It was a listed structure so couldnt be pulled down. Because of its location and size, people wanted it for development into housing estate, but werent allowed to touch the.
Oddly enough, it caught fire, all came down and now theyve almost finished putting the houses up. Must've made fortunes in that development.
