Manchester City executive chairman Garry Cook has insisted that the club are going to be the 'biggest' in the world.

City have made little secret of their intentions, following Sheikh Mansour's takeover of the club.

The club broke the British transfer record soon after Mansour took charge in 2008, and have since gone on to spend more than £120million in new players alone.

Cook was addressing a fans' forum in New York, and he told a buoyant crowd that he had little doubts the club would become the world's best.

"This football club is, without doubt, going to be the biggest and best football club in the world," Cook said.

"I will make no excuses for saying it, as I truly believe it - with the resources and capabilities we have."

Epic, you can't make this up

PREMIER LEAGUE NEWS
Steve Bruce hits out at "disrespectful" Liverpool
By Soccernet staff

January 22, 2010

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has accused Liverpool of "badgering" striker Kenwyne Jones and described the Merseyside club's conduct as "hugely disrespectful".

Jones has been at the centre of sustained speculation in January with reports claiming that he is a target for Liverpool following the sale of Andriy Voronin and an injury sustained by established first-choice striker Fernando Torres.

But Bruce is adamant there has been no contact between the clubs and is angry at what he perceives to be unsettling tactics employed by Liverpool.

Furthermore, the Sunderland manager has no intention of selling a player who has scored six goals and claimed two assists in 17 Premier League appearances this season.

"I find it hugely disrespectful, the antics of Liverpool," Bruce said. "I have huge respect for Liverpool and the way they have done their business and the way they have conducted themselves.

"But I have to say, this constant badgering of Kenwyne Jones when we as a club haven't heard anything, and then I keep reading this nonsense that I'm going to allow him to go on loan because it's a tax advantage for both clubs is the biggest load of rubbish I have read for weeks.

"As if I'm got to let our big, big player, one of our big, big assets, go on loan - I find it hugely disrespectful and I can't understand where Liverpool are coming from."

Gudjohnsen would move for not much more than a quarter of that figure. RVN is the obvious one.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was true. They like bragging. They have no class.

Seems Liverpool and Sunderland have been talking about Jones. He is in no way good enough for Liverpool. I'd imagine he'd cost £10m+ too?!

I still think we'll be trying to either swap for Babel (Id rather keep Babel tbh) or a loan until the summer.

I really dont think we have the cash to buy him unless we sell first, and not like we have loads of time to do that.

Benni McCarthy and/or Benjani to West Ham.

We need strikers admittedly, but still... If they do a job for 6 months guess I can't complain.
