Prices for engines on Ebay are too high. Just message few "breaking m3" adds, make a cheeky offer and you will be sorted.

not good mate, saw your car at the ring that weekend. was a good weekend all in all

that heads scrap mate its a m engine and if it were me i would'nt except repair to that. they could do two things with in, clean it up best they can, which if not done properly will cause slight hot spots when upto temp. or grind all the damage away so it 'looks' nice but than you'll have to do all the other 5.

have you done your shims yourself recently? if so over shimming on that cyinder will cause overheating when used for long periods of time at high rpm (track work). when shimming its better you shim on the lower end of the limit than the higher

The car was collected and take to a depot in Adenau. As far as I knew it was still there! On Monday I was told there is no due date for the car to be picked up and they'd let me know when there was.

Was a wicked weekend! Shame about the weather a couple of days but very good all in all.

It's being inspected on Monday apparently, I trust the garage not to do work they'd seem unnecessary so they obviously think its not that bad?

The shims weren't done no, I was going to get them checked & changed when I got home as nobody could do it before I went due to coming up to Easter.

What car were you in? Recognise your name, grey M3? Possibly CSL?

Yeah I think that was it, helpful guy, helped my mate diagnose a noise on his Astra VXR. He works for Audi too so might be the same guy, just bought a brand new S3?

Seems a strange thing to do putting pics on facebook bit unprofessional like something you'd do if you were fixing a mates car on your driveway

yep mate mine was one of the grey csl's.

point worth noting is make sure there using the proper timing tools, to time the vanos up. i'v been there done that and trying to do them without the right tools in nie on impossible.

I should add it wasn't the garage owner it was just an employee. I am not bothered about it I'll take it as a compliment that my car is important enough out of the many he works on, just not the way I wanted to find out

He went on the grass I believe but the damage to his car was from an accident last week. And his turbo was hanging on by 2 bolts....just the turbo gasket disintegrated.

Head is being sent for inspection, really depends on the condition of the valve seat as to whether it can be used again.
Block looks ok, very light scoring at the top but they all seem to have a similar thing, but we won't know until the block is removed as it definetly needs a piston, front end is being removed to do this and I should have an answer tomorrow with whether bits can be saved and prices relating to whatever the outcome is.
I don't want to be too confident but Martyn is pretty confident it's not as bad as it looks so that makes me feel better! If the block is ok it's going to have uprated bolts in the rod and bottom end, new shells depending on condition. With the way things are looking at the moment I could have a nice strong engine that will be good for many trackdays to come, but I don't want to jinx it. Roll on tomorrow!
