Look at the average speed, was only 12mph with a few stops for coffee and lunch. So walking today is not a problem. I can go faster, then I would struggle to walk.

Had another trip out to Cannock Chase today. Flipping heck it was hard work!
We did the 'Follow the Dog' trail last week and that wasn't too bad so we thought we would try the Monkey this time. Didn't realise quite how much further and harder it would be!

Anyway, here is a picture and link to the Endomondo tracking of the day. It should mention that I do have 'Auto Pause' enabled so the time I spent resting isn't included in that!

http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/161483951/8233068

I certainly hit my limit physically and technically. There were hills on the Monkey that I had to push up and rock gardens that I couldn't ride over. Also some of the black runs look absolutely mental

Will be going to Llandegla next weekend and probably stick to the Blue route there as I might not have the technical skills of stamina for the red route!

I was considering ditching the 3 chain rings at the front for two, but I really needed the granny cog today so might stick with three for a little while longer

Good stuff Doug, the black sections aren't too bad there as long as you keep roling and get your arse over the back wheel. Do you manage the notrious warewolf drop?! Which isn't quite as scary as people seem to make out! How are conditions over there? I have race there tomorrow.

Also when you ditch one it is the biggest, you keep granny!

Ahhhh, maybe I will go down to two then

I might have done the drop, where is it?! I have checked on YouTube and I can't remember if I saw that. I didn't miss out any sections on either route so I may have done it

It's really dry up there tbh and riding nicely.

The race was on today as well and it blocked off a bit of the trail for us!

If you use all 3 then don't bother but I think trail centre riding means most people rarely get into the largest gear and so dropping it gives you that extra clearance on drops. I'd say is a weight saving but many people replace the cog with a bashguard anyway.

I was told about warewolf drop prior to my first ride at cannock and wasn't looking forward to it. It's a drop that is inbetween two quite tight trees and then you have to turn fairly sharply at the bottom to avoid a tree. It's not actualy bad at all and I didn't realise I had even done it the first time as I was expecting worse, seems to get bigged up as a big feature though! Tend to find groups of people hanging out around it.

Looking forward to the race, hopefully borrowing a Kona Kahuna Deluxe 29"

How did you find lower cliff on the monkey, doug? (the downhill section after the bench)

I love that section, it's probably my favourite section.

Edit - If I were you doug, I'd go 2x9/10 maybe with a 40/28 or 36/26 crank, you should have more than enough gears there for trail centre riding.

New brakes all fitted got shorten the rear hose as its a bit to long and front brake needs bleeding as there is far to much travel in the lever nearly fully compressed before the it bites. Had to modify the bracket that mounts to the bars as i couldn't get the shifters back in the right place oh and they sent me the mount brackets for 180mm rotor on the front bit of a pain and also doing it without a work stand not fun at all

Took a look at that werewolf drop last night didn't look to bad was expecting it to be a bigger drop tbh. We have one similar in our local forest we call it 4drops same thing as werewolf at the top but twice the drop then you have to repeat it 3more times to the bottom.

It doesn't look bad on videos, it is steeper when you are at the top, I find the approach to it is quite awkward and you have to get your line right otherwise it can go wrong.

I've seen numerous people fall off there, they have built a diversion now so you don't have to do it, every time I go, there are people waiting around at the top or bottom watching people go down it.

Had my first off today. Went over a jump, bike went a bit sideways in mid air, landed on a dodgy angle and it threw me off pmsl. Rolled on the grass so didn't hurt.

Doesn't look bad but probably looks near vertical when you are at the top of it. Best just to go for it with those kind of things, don't spend ages looking at it
