I've just got up in the loft for a look. I've got this box up there at the moment...



I've got two aerials up there, one going into 'downlink' and one going into 'return in'

I don't know why there's four coming off as we only have two TV sockets in the flat. It's about 5m between each aerial and the box... is that too long? There's only one plug socket up there too which is used by that box above, I've read quite often you can just plug in the power behind the TV?

Cool actually I noticed the initial input was a bit loose... so did it up really tight and now all HD channels are working and haven't glitched even once after half hour viewing! Could be it? Hope so.

Also thought the other outputs might be going to the flat below us never thought about that. Oh well at least I have a back up plan now it fails again.

Todays job was to find a light for the hallway.

I wanted to combine the two small hanging lights into one bigger one in the middle, because that ceiling was starting to get a bit cluttered with two lights, an AP, a smoke alarm, a speaker and a loft access - all you can see here



Went to homebase found a light and set about the wiring.

First I ripped all the wiring out to the second light that wasn't needed, but the wire from the first light wasn't long enough to reach the middle of the hall, so i also ripped out with wiring to the switch and ran a fresh longer one - 3 switches for one light complicates things a tad if you don't know how its meant to wire up



Then I found the center of the hall and put in a wooden support for the light, it didnt actually need it reall as it was quite light weight, but always worth doing for future options



Next was to extend the wire from the supply, this ran quite a long way so rather than rip it all out and replace it with new, I used an extension box



Hanging out the ceiling for the new light



Then I had a bit of a head scratching moment, as whenever I turned the power on it was tripping off, I knew nothing was wrong with the wiring layouts, so was puzzled, eventually tracked it down to that extension box, the plastic gripper clips when I tightened them actually pinched the live and stripped some of the sheath so it was shorting out, re-did that but tightened the plastic clips less, then it worked fine, some finished pics





The balls have a crackle effect

Its fairly easy really if you can figure out which is supply and which is from the switch(s)



In my case there was no supply to next light. There was when there was two lights on the ceiling

450mm to the bottom of a socket is about right if you ask me. Why would you want sockets just above your skirting.
