1st event this season complete! Brean Stages Rally 2009, this weekend just gone. Pretty eventful weekend and heres a little report:
We had a really good weekend, and enjoyed nearly every minute of it!! Had a real good run through the stages on Saturday, (albeit a bit short and not really getting into them!!) whilst still getting used to the new engine, and running it in(!) as i'd only managed to put 5 gentle miles on it before the event! Was really chuffed to be sitting 24th o/a and 2nd in class (to Julian Wilkes who i wasn't expecting to beat anyway!) at the end of Saturday, and was aiming for a top 20 finish at the end of sunday!
SS9 on Sunday we had a good run, but Les Skeet, in a 1400 Astra, had woken up and was starting to eat away at our 23 second lead we had over him, the gap was brought down to 20seconds, but with only 5 stages left to run, i thought we would be safe at our current pace. But nope, SS10 and we had a spin and backed into the kerbs at the end of the long straight which lost us 10 seconds after eventually turning around, and then within a mile, the inner CV decide to smash! So i was left limping around the stage, being passed by 2 cars behind us, automatically knowing we've lost over a minute!! Frantic work in the service with huge thanks to the Wilkes' (I think dave was under the car before it was up on its stands!!), my dad and Rich for their help and work, and we were back out for SS11 to try and climb back up from 38th o/a and 4th in class.
Unfortunately for us, Les and Lee were setting nearly identical times to us, so there was no chance of taking 2nd back unless a mistake was made, which wasn't so we ended up 3rd in class but managed to get up to 26th overall. Just really annoying to know that without the lost time, we could of got 14th o/a which would've been my best finish yet!! Thanks to Arron Rayner for pulling over for us on SS13, and for spinning in front of us on SS14, just leaving enough space for us to squeeze through!
Congrats to Julian and David for a great drive to 6th and the class win, and also to everyone that finished the event. Thanks to the marshals and organisers for braving the cold, and my service crew and family for coming up and supporting us! Was good to catch up with Les, Lee, Clive in the Nova, Bryan and Jamie in the orange Nova.
And heres some piccies of the weekend:
All ready and waiting in the Scrutineering queue:
Who's this funny looking bloke?!
And at the end with Julian Wilkes' 190bhp 1400 'Flying' Nova:
And some other cars from the event:
Julian Wilkes and David Whitehead, JRE powered 1.4 Nova, 6th overall:
Dave Parnell and Pete Bold in their JRE powered 2.4 Escort Mk1, 4th Overall!!
Bryan Whale, JRE powered 1.6 Corsa S1600, DNF:
And Duncan Holder and Lois Miller in the massive Rover SD1!! Started Sunday behind this car, sounded lovely off the start line:

cracking project bud! just read the whole lot, and you have certainly got a special piece of kit!
That RWD 2.0 looks real smart too. Loving the arches on it and the rear spoiler is different too. Also amazing how much difference cutting the bottom of the rear bumper off actually makes!

Not a huge update, considering how long its been since i've been on here but i've now got a GSi front bumper for the Corsa:
Makes it look a bit better. We're out competing again on the 15th August at last, its been sooo long since i've been out. Cant wait!
