Not always platinum, the washcoat is made up of various different precious metals, platinum is the most expesive though. You'd be better off going at that with a VERY large hammer drill or even better an air chisel.

so whats your plan? to holo the inside of the cat out so it seems as if the car has a cat but actualy its just a holo pipe?
if so this is a great way to have no cat and still pass the mot or do they use some sort of sensor to detect the cat? as u can see i got no clue about cats.

you would fail the DOT test thats all, doesnt matter if you have a cat as long as your car passes that test

oh yeah Ak as you have taken the plastic bits off the arches i thought you cut cut off thebit it bolts to? "trim the arch a bit"

the inner plastic would have to be trimmed, dirt would sit up inside that... it would rust... its not a good idea
